I’ve got nothing to oppose Scribble. dfs, I assume you’re in the same boat. Kelan, you got anything?

This last turn went well for me, and I am feeling fairly confident I can win at this point. My dominion push strategy is going more slowly than I’d hoped, but I have swarms of buffed demons and vampires running around led by about ten fallen angels.

But I’m happy to play on - there are surely some spectacular battles ahead. And noone’s even attempted to cast a global spell yet, which is weird.

…I was able to poison pill myself enough that even when Caelum had me beat, he coughed it up and I grew back to my original size, but while that was going on Marignon ate Agartha.

The sensible play was for Caelum and Mictlan to stop our war and join with Gath and Atlantis to put down the leader. Caelum thought they had us beat and continued to prosecute the war. I’m not sure what happened to Gath. Atlantis just didn’t have enough.

I was behind where I wanted to be when the war started and now I’m…about 25 turns behind schedule.

I thought that was quite weird as well. The algorithm for choosing how many extra gems to use to reduce fatigue never made much sense to me. Your A3E8 pretender had three air gems and five earth gems. First cast storm - only use two of the three gems, ending up at over 100 fatigue. With reinvig he went down to 96, and next turn he cast summon earthpower - using every single one of the five earth gems to reduce fatigue. Wtf? And was the summon earthpower even scripted, or did he opt to do that instead of casting army of gold?

Nah, the script was Storm, AoG, then Summon EP to recover.

According to my calculation, he should have been just under fat 100 after AoG.

(calculation)
Storm is A4, 100 fat, 1 gem; 50 fat for an A3 caster using 3 gems; +6 casting enc =>56

10 reinvig => 46

AoG is E4, 300 fat, 3 gems; 43 fat for an A8 caster using 5 gems; +6 casting enc => 95
Try this. Copy your *.2h file to a new backup directory. Delete the Crooked_Trunk directory. Make it again. Download a fresh turn. Move your *.2h into it.

It probably won’t work. But it might save you redoing the turn.

It didn’t work, but I appreciate the try!

The weird thing is, when I open my turn, it’s clearly Turn 29, and all of my moves are saved. I hit End Turn, and go to my .2h file. But the .2h file says it was last modified five days ago. Does that help anyone diagnose this?

OH

Did you install to c:\programfiles? If so, copy paste \dominions3 to c:\dominions3 and try again. Sounds like win7 protection problems.

Dominions doesn’t use registry keys. It will run just fine from any location including a thumb drive. All it needs is the key.txt file.

Oh, geez… The other day I installed Microsoft Security Essentials. I have Windows Vista. Do you think there is a connection to your suggestion?

Yup

Fucking vista. PoS. Seriously, move the directory.

I did, and the orders I scripted appear to be all gone now, even though I did not change anything except the directory location. Any thoughts?

(I hit End Turn just to check, and now the .2h file says it’s been changed as of August 26, which is good. But why would changing directories appear to erase my progress? Where is my progress saved?)

Did you backup the *.2h?

Yes, I have a backup. I copied it into the Crooked_Trunk folder after I changed directories, but the game acts nevertheless as if I’m just starting Turn 29 fresh.

shit. I think that means the *.2h was LAST turn. The other one didn’t save. I think no matter what you’ll have to rescript. But don’t worry about it. NOTHING will happen :)

I’m just going to lie down and die for you. Cause you are such a nice guy.

I tried to burn down the fort on Eriu to screw you. But you got there too quick. Now well. I’ll just have to run away.

But before I moved the directory, I was able to see all of my orders. Where’s the file where that is saved? Does it save to my RAM? ;)

I’m stumped now. Oh you might look in /users/appdata

Better yet, search for *.2h on c:. It might be in some fucked up place.

Oh and turn on hidden files

Nothing about dominions there. I also searched my computer for mid_bandar, and no luck. Where on earth would my orders have been stored, and why would switching directories erase them? I know I’ve already asked this, but I’m restating, in case someone else chimes in.

Weird as hell. But you know :) We’ve been at this 1/2 hour. You could have redone the turn by now :)

Heh… I’m in and out, hosting a bonfire party. :)

Thanks for your help! I’ll just stay up late and play the turn.

Nice about the party :) Glad to help if I can. At least you’ve got a more robust install now. The rest, I’m not sure. I haven’t had to dick with vista in 2 years. I hated it.
