Ah. Somebody’s getting killed!

That would be me. Congrats to Scribble. I think he’s in a position where it will be tough for him to lose. He’ll take me out and then hit Nate from both sides.

That will give him three capitols and until Mictlan falls, nobody will really have a front where they can hit him. Pan can strike through a couple of narrow choke points, but I don’t see it. Likewise Arga has a single province access thread to Agartha, but it will be a tough slog.

Neither Eriu or Abby have access to even hit Agartha. Good luck Nate.

…I did not keep the victory conditions in my notes…It is three capitols isn’t it? If I’m wrong about that…then the geography changes a bit.

AAR
Obviously the choice to stand and fight over minor territory issues when you’ve got a nation that is very weak in the early game wasn’t the best idea, but I maintain that it was obvious war between Agartha and the Second Empire and I would rather have had it out in the open early than been surprised later on.

Tactically, I’m not sure how I didn’t see that army coming with the scouting that I have, but … I didn’t. With the delay for Sandy…I just don’t recall. Withdrawal to preserve my force would have been a better choice rather than forging ahead w/out better support from Pan/Arga/Mictlan, but that’s spilt milk.

Two games in a row with this format where I’ve been destroyed early. I like it. Nate if you would give me a nation for the Random game soon, I would be grateful. I need to work on my early game…well and my middle game…you know, I’m not so hot in the late game either…

No AARs until you’re totally dead! Em’s the rules.

Also, pyrhic’s running the RAND game, not I, sir.

Right. Him.

Abysia sure is making a lot of amazon looking things on my border. Those the crystal version?

I dunno, i was thinking of waiting until the new year, or a little more interest sparked up. I think we got to five people. If ya’ll think that’s good, each post two nations to throw into the pot - when i get all 10, i’ll assign them, set a map and make a name.

You really need to start this game before I decide to join another one. It’s been just dangling there, taunting me to join.

What era are you playing?

I bet Maerlande would play… maybe we need to re-ask here who wants to play. Maybe we’d pick up 1-2 from BF, Nate?

I’m good with waiting till the new year and advertising then.
Just wanted to know.

I think it’s time we all sat down and had a nice long talk about Agartha

Ooh, can I come too?

Gee…ya think?

Some scattershot observations:

  • I’m 3rd in income and I feel very cash strapped every turn. I think that we might have gotten a low population world which is making cash short for everyone. I know a couple other players have also talked about having income difficulties.

  • I’m 2nd in research (though I would be third there too if not for the change in Pythium’s fortunes) and my research feels awfully, awfully, low for this point in the game. I don’t really know what to make of the necessarily… maybe just folks aren’t prioritizing research… maybe the low income has lead to fewer forts, labs and mages…

  • Scribble’s position - Through the power of hindsight and a smidge of actual research, I think it’s pretty clear that we should have known Scribble was going to be a problem from Turn 1. With Agartha’s (sorta) new super-powered boulder chunkers (which I assume he is using… don’t know that tho) they have an offense that can be a real problem for nations that don’t have a counter readily available.

That’s not the issue though… lots of nations have an early tactic that requires a counter. I think the bigger problem is that they are the only water power on the map and as such have been able to conquer most of the water unmolested. On a map with enough water to support a water nation, that’s a lot of free income/gems, etc… I also went in and actually checked and even though the description says they have poor amphibs, the units are actually fully amphibious… so there’s that…

The final piece of it of course is that Scribble is really good… given a neutral position, he’s still prob. going to be a problem. Given the kind of built in advantage he has here, there’s prob. going to have to be some pretty serious focus on doing something about it soon or this will turn into a walkover…

I suppose you’re right I’m doing pretty good. Terrible research though.

What changes everything though is that this is a 3 VP game. The winner will be someone making plans for how to get 3 VPs, not those who play “kill the leader”. Of course if you think your best way to get there is to relieve me of my VP you are welcome to try it. :)

Since failing to internalize win condition is apparently “what I do” can you link me to the little thread that says who everyone is and what setting are and whatnot? I had no idea this was another rush-type game (and thus my build sucks it would seem). I guess also, since the game is set to 7 VPs it won’t auto-end when someone gets 3, so do we have to hold them or what? Sorry… can’t seem to find any details…

In a related story, this game may be pretty well over if something doesn’t happen quickly.

I’m sorry about the confusion around the victory condition Austen. It wasn’t clearly stated when the game was set up, but I clarified it early on in this post.

In fact I didn’t do a proper game start post with every detail in it this time. Will do that next time around, it was just an oversight.

A little background on the victory condition: Historically, many of the QT3 games played have been turtlefests that lasted longer than they should have. The theory is that a win condition based on rewarding aggressive play will counteract that. Hopefully we will have a winner around the turn 50-60 mark at the latest.

That’s all perfectly reasonable, I just missed it :P I am set up for a longer game and need to adapt now.

Although truthfully, given your current position, I’m not sure it will really matter much.

Just a heads up… when you get the new turn, go check out the charts… it’s time to pile on Scribble. I don’t have access to him, but am happy to lend support in other ways if I can…

I also have nothing resembling the diplo skills necessary to get folks working together, so maybe someone else can help out there :P It looks like a Pangaea/Arga Dis/Mictlan team needs to get together on this stat… Everyone else (Me and Eriu I suppose) should agree to leave them alone so they can do it without worrying about others…

Can this get done? What can I do to help? We could go to PMs I suppose? Would love to hear from everyone…

He’s not at the unstoppable phase yet :) I’m sure we can take him down before he goes too crazy. Again.
