Ya, i won’t deny that he’s a bit of a scary-ass freak, but that’s what happens when you’re an obese hero for like 80 turns…

Pythia, if you’re looking for a solution to darkness - man, it’s gonna havta be you.

I’m scared of the dark…

Damn, dfs. How many death gems did you pour into that global? :P

So, that was 5 globals with a very large dispel aimed at Utterdark, and they all failed except for 2 minor globals that held. I am afraid that I am all tapped out on the Darkness front for the near future. Sorry guys.

Just trying to keep the game interesting.

You could just try to kill someone, you know…

…I mean, apart from my giant spinning wheel of flaming holy death.

Just saying…

I’ve spending a bunch of time trying to kill Eriu.
I’m simply not able to punch through the force he has in that castle and since it’s almost all summoned upkeep won’t break him either.
Dom-kill seems to be the best solution, but that doesn’t seem to be working as well.

I’m feeling around the edges of killing Ashdod, but I don’t want to overextend myself.
Raiders from Ashdod and Man have shown that I can’t go toe to toe with their best.

Public service announcement:

The old location for hosting Dom3 DB will cease to exist in 1 hour and 20 minutes. My ISP is terminating all consumer web hosting services as a cost reduction measure because of very low usage.

The Dom3 DB will henceforth be hosted at the llamaserver, as soon as I manage to upload it there. There was some glitch with the FTP connection just now and I could not log in, so that will have to wait until the problem has been resolved. Thank you for your time.

DFS… DFS, you’ve got utterdark, burden of time and Well of Misery up, but you don’t have me. You were going to kill me, DFS. You’re going to have to come down here. You’re going to have to come down here!

I’m doing ok in this game. You can come visit agartha any time you want. We’ve very much enjoyed looking over Ashdod’s fomer territory.

Garn. Worst part about this game is scripting.

Yeah…Sure…Go ahead and cast army of statues when you’ve got overwhelming numbers…Paralyze all your casters so that the other guy can have 15 free turns to get his communion up and going.

Bah…Middle era Agartha has a special national spell that freezes all of Agartha’s units for 15 turns. It turns them to stone. Only high level earth mages can cast it. You know, the kind of high level earth mages that Agartha has who you want to cast army of gold or army of lead during the end game…Don’t give those mages earth gems. They go off script and cast Army of statues.

A tip of the cap to Ashdod who lives to fight another day.

I actually think it worked to your advantage. Many of my spells failed to do damage, and many missiles in particular, didn’t do all they could do. It’s not like you were going to fly over my walls, and instead when your spell lifted it was my troops in the funnel of the entrance trying to fight out, instead of the other way around.

No, i think you did alright.

It doesn’t matter anyways, since i dont have much left to fight with…

Particularly when the mage scrippted to spam mass flight on my guys got turned to stone for 15 dang turns.

Dude, I think you’ve just about got this one wrapped up. All hail the mighty cuddles.

I knew you were going to do mass flight so I had a staff of storms up: your troops weren’t flying anywhere regardless when you had it scripted.

Dude, I think you’ve just about got this one wrapped up. All hail the mighty cuddles.

All wrapped up? I have an army size of 207, you have an army size of 2855 - yes, i have you just where i want you!

I saw that staff of storms but didn’t put 2 and 2 together. Silly me. Thanx.

Quality matters. You’ve got an army of disease free long lived giants with paths to every branch of magic.

I’m almost free!

Just one more task for cuddles and then we go into that great abyss!

Via PM Caelum and Pythia have conceded The Tour to Agartha which I believe ends the last QT3 Dom3 game.

At the end Agartha held Eriu and Ashdod and needed another capitol for an official win. With Man dark it seems an obvious choice, but my siege never broke through his walls, so I never found out what was inside and a large Pythian army sits on top of him now. I believe I would have astral traveled 3 large armies on top of Pythia’s capitol. With the earth spell that tears down walls cast several times, my hope was to break his gates in a turn and then have those armies supplemented by flyers and stealth commanders storm him out. I don’t know if it would have worked or not. I can imagine what type of late game communion he could have put up and the timing was pretty tight. I just needed to get everything into position to try it.

Several Turning points in the game from my point of view.

The early war between Ashdod and Eriu left Ashdod crippled for the whole game. Kuddos to Pyrhic for continuing to take turns till the end. I find those are often the games I learn the most in.

The temporary truce between Eriu and Agartha. I had him beat. He had me beat. We made a truce. Others ended up taking him down. Which lead to…
Pythia deciding to go after Man instead of Agartha. If I had beaten Eriu early I knew my fate which is why I prosecuted that war so halfheartedly. When Man started to really take down Eriu, it got Pythia’s attention.

I was casting about for an end game and I noticed my Hero with Death 4 access. I got up Well of Misery and do a little forging after an empowerment and I ended up with Tarts. My Pretender had the paths to get the Chalice and Restore Soul. In addition to Agartha’s great national summons I was set for the end game. That was from Luck scales getting the hero, holding enough land to get the gems to do it and the national summons that Agartha has that gooses research. I LOVE luck scales. None of my test games or early game writeups mention a path to tarts.

The decisions by Eriu and Man to go dark. I maintain that if somebody had continued to play Eriu and simply kept his mages summoning troops and restocked with air gems to cast fog warriors, I never would have taken that capitol. Man’s inability to convince Caelum and Pythia to join with him and come after me just changed the landscape of the game. I can’t falt Wahoo for bailing, but simply having a player take a turn now and then for Man would have driven my raiders off his castles.

After everybody else was effectively gone, the decisions by Pythia and Caelum to leave me alone. Utterdark/Tarts/Burdon of Time/Eriu’s Capitol/Ashdod’s Capitol I never knew when the flying horde or the purple serpent were going to decide to strike, but nobody ever did more than raid a province till Pythia decided to push me off of Man’s capitol. All those toys going to rust.

I don’t believe the game worked out the way anybody wanted it to and I think we can all agree that the change from capitols to thrones makes a better victory condition.

Dom3 is dead. Long live Dom4.

Grats DFS!

Out of curiosity, how many gems did you put into your globals(in particular utterdark)?

Ya, Eriu bled me dry, but i gain some solace in what i said was true: Ashdod could not be defeated by just raiding. In fact, from a certain point of view, since Ashdod did not concede, we actually technically were not defeated!

:)

I had a large empire and well of misery up for a long time. I was getting 50 death gems a turn. I don’t have notes on exactly how many gems went into them, but cost of casting plus 100 would be a decent place to start. I would say you weren’t going to get to that caster, but you managed to take down my god there near the end so, technically it was possible.

17 water gems a turn plus the income from already summoned water trolls meant a water troll court every other turn. There was some micro associated with moving those gems. Since each Sea King generates his own gems, once you get multiple castings up they just start to come quicker.
50 death gems meant a tart and a wraith lord (who then started summoning ghosts) every turn. I was more limited by the few high powered death casters I had than gems.
11 Air gems went into forging/battle casting. I never had enough of those. Boots are useful and that displaced armor rocks. I did end up with 2 air queens. I don’t know who had the third.
25 Earth gems was never enough between forging and summonings. I had the two “pure” earth Kings. Ashdod had the corrupted one.
16 nature gems, but I believe a lot of that was from Ashdod’s territory and then Eriu. For a large section of the game I hoarded my nature gems for Restore Soul. After Eriu, I had a surplus.
17 fire gems went into forging. I figured Man cleared out the interesting summons.
I only had the one decent blood summons, a Heliopagus. The Tarts got me into blood.
I was racking up 20 astral gems a month. Although I summoned two ether lords I really was hoarding what I had left for the multiple astral travel move mentioned above and then what would be needed for the final battle casting.
Of course Man had the water queens. I’m guessing the Fire Kings were his as well, but I never had the casters to try.

After utterdark went up, I never had enough cash to break even unless I had some random event give me a bunch of gold. I’m sure everybody else was hurting for cash. I would alchemize fire gems in order to create the cash to buy province defense, but I never really aimed at solvency.

MA Agartha is a fun nation, very much reliant on summons to get going. The statues give you a strong early game and which lets you summon the memory of the ancients that really makes your research take off. The marble oracle is a nice thug chasis that can self bless and of course the avatar of darkness makes sieging your fortresses even tougher. It all locks together really nicely. With my lucky break into death casting Well of Misery/Utterdark/Burden of Time seemed to be thematic as well.

…and it looks like we set this game up in January of 2013 and started playing on the 11 of Feb 2013 so it went just over a year.

Interestingly in the random draw for nations Wahoo drew Agartha and I drew Man. He was gracious enough to swap with me.

MA Agartha had just won the KillScribble game so I had a bit of a blueprint. I didn’t do exactly what Scribble did, but he outlined the high points of MA Agartha for me. Some time ago he spanked me with EA Ulm which has since gone on to become one of my favorite nations. Is he still playing anywhere?
