Just die when you’re supposed to then… ;)

Haha!

So maybe if we have 7 players, we could play to 3 VPs instead of 4 VPs? And maybe set research to hard?

I’d be in, if there’s space :)

How slow? Typically, the turn timer scales up as the game progresses. 24 hours, then 48 after about 12 turns, then 72 after about 40 turns.

Just for what it’s worth. Spring Lion is just around turn 50 and we’re still holding at 48 hour turns with only a few delays and stales. Thanks guys. It’s really scratched my itch.

Can anybody stand up to Arco or Gath? Will Joman or TC ever do anything relevant? can Patala overcome an early war? Tune in tomorrow.

Fixed that for you…

good catch

I could stand to join up in another Dom3 game. Been a while.

So what age are we playing, and do we use any mods? I’ve noticed some references to clamming, so I guess you guys don’t use CBM?

So let’s see, we have eight players.

New to QT3 Dom3:
-Nikolaj
-Brooski
-Austen

The usual QT3 crowd:
-Nate
-pyrhic
-Evil Steve
-Matt Bowyer

Perkins:
-Dave Perkins

Dom 3 is definitely best when games don’t last beyond turn 70, so let’s see if we can have some settings that make that more likely. A combination of strong independents and a small map without any underwater races could work. Maybe 90 provinces or so and independents 7-9. Victory condition should be control of four of the eight capitals. I think three of eight capitals would be too easy and allow for some cheap rush wins.

Because we have three new players I want to give them an advantage, but nothing too drastic. I propose each player nominates one nation to throw into the pot, then we do a draft like we did in a previous game. The three new players get to pick nations first, then the rest of the pack pick from the list in random order.

I have no preference on Age - what do people prefer?

Mods: On the fence. I think we should use the latest CBM since it really is more balanced, but I leave this up to voting. As a newer player you might as well start playing with it right away rather than learn the ins and outs of the vanilla game.

Dude, Bruce wrote the manual. He hardly needs an advantage. I, on the other hand, will probably need all the advantage I can get. :D

Anyway, I’ve only played CBM games, but I’ll follow any majority decision. I would prefer late age, since I haven’t tried that before, but whatever the majority decides is fine by me.

Oh, that Bruce. Then he definitely deserves to pick with the first group, the manual is awesome!

any age is fine with me. cbm is fine too.

Another idea for a shorter game - if we can get two more players, then we could do two games of five players each using the rather cool Five Lands map (link).

Yeah, the issue is that I’m sometimes at work for thirty hours in a row, and then repeat soon thereafter (like next Wed-Thu and then Sat-Sun) so a 24-hour deadline would not be possible. I don’t want to slow the game down too much, so this might not be the best time for me to get into a Dom3 game. I would have to ask for delays every week at least.

I think Nate belongs in this category.

I think we can easily account for that kind of schedule. We’ve worked around vacations and stuff like that before; no reason to let a busy work schedule disqualify you from playing a PBEM game. That’s one of the huge perks of PBEM, anyway.

I agree with Matt on that one, we can easily accomodate such a schedule. We can do 48 hour turns with no auto-hosting. This means that you can always know that if you complete a turn you have until the hosting time + 48 hours before you have to do another turn.

As the super-noob, I’ll defer to others on settings. I’ve not used CBM, but I can certainly look into it.

One of the main differences is in forging. Luckily, CBM 1.92 ships with a nice PDF, which explains the changes to forging. There are other changes, too, of course, but I have no idea what they are. :)
