I figured that was Manchu influence, since the middle era is supposedly the Ming. Either way, I’m not going to let T’ien Ch’i invade me, just to satisfy Bruce’s demands for historical consistency. :)

edit: Maybe people could make a prioritized list of the nations they want to play, and send it to Scribble, who could then assign nations from those lists in the order people are supposed to be picking. That way we might be able to start this week. :)

Sorry for the delay. I’ll have my pick in the next 90 minutes. In that time if anyone has suggestions for a first timer, I’d love to know about it. My wife has been having a lot of surgery and other no-fun things so I haven’t studied up as much as I was hoping.

If you are new to competitive Dom 3, I’d avoid heavy blood nations at least. I’d go for a nation that has strong basic troops.

Consider yourself lucky; you will have more time to test different builds and settle on a strategy. I think starting the game proper this weekend is a bit optimistic, but the draft should be done in a day or two.

Yeah, I’m already testing out a couple of builds, and I do appreciate the head start on that. It was just a suggestion to move things along a bit faster, but either way is fine by me.

What settings are we using, though? I’ve come to realise that that may be important to factor in, when creating a pretender. What about maps?

Also, if we’re splitting into two teams, and playing two seperate games, is there any reason why the same nation can’t be used in both games? I’m mainly asking out of curiosity, since I got to pick first anyway. :)

First of all my sympathies about your wife.

Second…suggestions…staying away from blood is a good suggestion, but pretty tough to do in the LA.

Abysia, Blood of Humans - Blood Nation.
Mictlan, Blood and Rain - Blood - Odd Dominion spreading.
Midgard, Age of Men - Blood - Stealth
Utgard, Well of Urd - Blood - Giants.
Ulm, Black Forest - Blood Nation

Atlantis, Frozen Sea - Nation into mobility. Fine Mages. Going to be hampered a bit by the lack of seas on this map, but still viable.

Jomon, Human Daimyos - Finesse nation. Reliant on Summons. I feel this nation is going to be hampered even more than Atlantis by the lack of seas.

C’tis, Desert Tombs - limited options. limited bless strategies.

Arcoscephale, Sibylline Guidance - Could be done.
T’ien Ch’i, Barbarian Kings - Could be done.

There ya go. I would suggest Arco or T’ien.

If you’re interested in picking Arcoscephale, there’s a very good AAR here, that should give you some idea of what Arcoscephale can do, as well as some nice tips on playing Dom3 in general. If you have time to read it all, that is. :)

Well I nominated Arco specifically because I have played them a decent bit in SP and felt like they don’t have anything to odd in their implementation. The fact that no one else wanted to nominate them, but all signs seem to indicate that they would be a good way for me to go, so I’ll take Arcoscephale.

I remember reading that AAR and being horrified about how people were going AI and it seemed to be an accepted way to play. The author of the AAR even egged his neighbour to go AI at one point.

Some good strategy stuff in there though.
