Crap. And isn’t Utah county only reporting like 66%? Or was that before today’s drop? If that’s the case, I think Mia Love wins. :(
I was expecting her to, but McAdams being in the lead all week has really gotten my hopes up.

She isn’t even in office. I mean, she’s just attending a protest; a protest of young people who have specific demands related to a future they have a stake in. She’s 29 years old and has the same stake:
This seems entirely reasonable and a worthy cause for a young activist/politician to lend her platform to.
To my uninformed self, 100% renewable energy sounds like a pipe dream in any sort of near-future scenario, but I wholeheartedly endorse investment in new technologies that will make it less of one.

It’s totally a pipe dream in any near or mid-term scenario. But long term, over say 30 years? Why not? 3% per year seems do-able.

Yes. It’s the goal, and taking steps to reach it.
I may not be able to run a sub 5 minute mile any more, but setting that as my goal and working towards it is still worthy. Even if I fail to meet my goal, I still improved things.
And it’s a goal to always strive towards.
Now that’s a position to negotiate and compromise from, not starting at the already compromised position and working from there.
Sure, but there’s something about urging a “green new deal that gets us there ASAP” that gives the impression of a fringe activist rather than someone looking to introduce achievable policy…at least to me. Does that make sense? It’s a noble goal, but not sure it makes a lot of sense to be shouting from that particular rooftop before you have even started. But hey, enthusiasm and energy are things we need.
Makes sense.
I mean, from a purely rational perspective, it is insane that there aren’t millions of people protesting climate policy in front of the Capitol every day.* The stakes could literally not be higher, and we live in a bizarro world where ‘vaguely concerned’ and ‘outright denial’ are the two socially acceptable attitudes.
*I’m as much to blame as anyone. We all have our daily obligations. And that’s gonna cost us big time.
Per Nate S, it isn’t clear how much vote is left, and where it’s from. Utah County is at 169% of 2014 midterm vote reported, and Salt Lake County is at 155%.
It’s more than a noble goal. It’s literally the only approach that will avert immense calamity.
But again, as Craig pointed out, our Overton Window on this topic is completely misaligned with reality.
Heh. No, it’s mac and cheese made using an instant pot, kind of a newfangled countertop electric pressure cooker. They’ve been all the rage among the college-age kids the last few years. I don’t get it myself, but eh, I actually know how to cook. Just Google Instant Pot (and add mac and cheese for about a bajillion recipes. )

QFT. Demanding a committee with lofty goals that isn’t staffed by people with conflicts of interest with those goals seems pretty tame. We’re fucking up their future. They’re being pretty polite about it.

Well most people have jobs and responsibilities. Asking them to protest everyday is a hard ask. Asking to spend time reviewing policies, considering candidates with save the human race mentalities is not. There’s a reason the young tend to move and do these things because the same people who sit 30-60 days in a car to win a car can march on the capital. They don’t have as many responsibilities yet.
She’s in the big leagues now though, or soon. She should be preparing for that, getting ready for the shift. It’s not going to be same ole. She’s got shift gears and hopefully does that well.
Yeah, also I am delighted the Democratic congress is treating climate as such a high priority.
It is one of the primary reasons I want to see the Republican party destroyed. Now they are the science denier party they are , quite literally, a threat to all of our lives.

In negotiations, never shoot yourself in the foot. If they started at 10% they’d get argued down below 5%, which wouldn’t do any good. If you want to have a shot at 50-75% you have to start at 100%.

Also if you want to actually get to 100%.
And in the CA-39, Cisneros trimmed Kim’s lead down to 700-ish.
Yes, CraigM already made this point.
We mentioned this over in the SNL thread but I think it’s worth repeating.
Me:
I read about this but haven’t watched it yet. Sounds like it was handled nicely and, in its way, their message is decidedly anti-Trump.
What frustrates me about the hubbub over Pete’s original joke (“lost his eye in a war or whatever”) is that it seems more like a self-effacing joke about his own privileged ignorance and apathy. I think the target of that joke is liberals more than Lt. Dan. I mean, I get why it was controversial and I know outrage gets manufactured routinely but c’mon.
@JonRowe
Especially because that was just a comment in a lead-up to his joke, which was about how his name sounded like a porn-star’s. It is typical Pete Davidson though, he makes fun of his stupidity and youthful ignorance, and it is kind of his shtick.
To his credit Dan Crenshaw didn’t seem to care that much at all, and it was nice of him to get some digs in on Pete on SNL, and remind us of Veteran’s day, and that Pete’s dad was a firefighter hero who died on 9/11. It feels like things balanced out in the end, and everyone can move on.
I don’t like Crenshaw’s political views but I liked his piece in the Washington Post.
