Josh Harder takes the CA-10.
I take your point, but the essence of comedy is mockery. All humor springs from making fun of someone. That’s one reason so many comedians develop shticks which are based on self-mockery; they make themselves, or people like themselves, the butt of their jokes, so that they seem less offensive.
It’s also why most comedians punch up. Punching down is gross, but does happen.

The essence of comedy is irony, the unexpected turn:
A grasshopper walks into a bar, and the bartender says, “Hey, we have a drink named after you!”
The grasshopper looks surprised and asks, “You have a drink named Steve?”
Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette is a whole routine poking at the notion that comedy has to punch and who it typically punches. Mockery is prevalent in standup, I think, because 1) we’ve become conditioned culturally to think of puns as kids’ stuff and limericks as old stuff and 2) social situations contain loads of ambiguity that can be mined for irony.

I agree with his sentiment here. I also think a lot of people reacting didn’t actually watch the segment, they just reacted to news articles. It was all pretty harmless, a little tasteless, and you can tell while he is saying it Pete understands he is digging himself a hole and moves on.
Either way, I thought his appearance on SNL and the WaPo piece were well intentioned, and having his phone ringtone be an Ariana Grande song was a great moment that Pete was obviously not expecting.

I think my issue with the whole Crenshaw thing probably isn’t about Crenshaw himself, but rather about the right wingers who all of a sudden started to care about making fun of a veteran.
I mean, Pete Davidson is:
- A young kid
- A comedian
And yet there was all this manufactured outrage over his making a joke, on a show where they make jokes. And the same folks complaining about it simultaneously gave a pass to the actual President of the United states, who has on multiple occasions insulted numerous war heroes. Hell, as recently as this monday.
Pete appologized, and really, I don’t think he was ever meaning to insult Crenshaw personally… I seriously doubt he knew literally anything about Crenshaw, besides the fact the guy has an eye patch… which is, let’s be fair here… not something you ever see anyone wear. The dude DOES look like a porno hit man.

That’s what really cracked me up. It seems like “respect the vets!” is a switch that can be toggled on and off at a moments notice for them.
Fail to pay respect during Veterans Day? No big deal. Mock and ridicule a POW like McCain or Gold Star families? Hell, cheer that shit on! Make a joke (and not much of a derogatory one, to be honest) about an eye patch that a veteran wears? RESPECT THE TROOPS!!!1
I’m old enough to remember Dan Aykroyd’s killer impersonations of Bob Dole, which decidedly did not spare Dole’s war injury and his habit of holding a pen in the fist of his crippled arm.

I’m old enough to remember when liberals were always accused of being snowflakes who got offended over minor things.
Since apparently the national memory is equivalent to that of a goldfish.
Are you mocking my age? I’m so offended!

I’m always just so impressed you and @Scuzz post so fluently outside your native hieroglyphics.
Don’t worry, folks. I have it on VERY GOOD AUTHORITY that the ILLEGITIMATE DEMOCRAT PLOTS to take over the House WILL NOT STAND.

Finally someone has the guts to say that the elections were fraudulent. Republicans were waiting for him.
Oh, shit. HE IS SAYING IT. In ALL CAPS even. The jig is up.
I would love a special counsel to investigate the elections. As with most investigations into our elections, they would likely find that the tiny smidge of fraud and shenanigans was committed by Republicans.

Likely?
We know, hands down, that at least in Georgia this is a fact.
It is also highly probable that there were shenanigans in Florida. Err, let me rephrase that. There were shenanigans, it is not unreasonable that some of said shenanigans were nefariously intended by the governor to benefit him.
So wait, first this guy posts a fake Donkey Kong score, and now he’s calling the Democratic Majority illegitimate?
