Crispywebb gets it…1979 early slasher that has a pretty tense first 20 minutes and a slack rest of the runtime.

But this movie is even more important because it lays the groundwork for When A Stranger Calls Back, the bizarre 1993 sequel where the killer paints himself as a brick wall to stalk his victim.

Blonde?

Wrong hair color.

Wait a minute. Is that… House of Yes?

A little American Thanksgiving fun in hono(u)r of our friends to the north. And The Ice Storm has already been taken. I love this movie that feels like and is based on a play. I don’t know if many people have seen it, or if it’s even easy to find anymore. If we could just make a House of trade and exchange Tori Spelling for Olivia Cooke we’d have a perfect movie.

Air Raid, @JoshL!

Hey, the drapes may not match the carpet.

I went through a bit of a Parker Posey phase at one point. I definitely watched this, and Party Girl, uh, and some other stuff, maybe Clockwatchers? Anyway, if you’ve seen it, you won’t forget her Jackie O style, and that makes the 20:20 pretty recognizable, once you realize who you’re looking at. At first glance I thought maybe it was Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle. But very quickly realized that wasn’t right.

I was pretty excited when I heard she was going to play Dr. Smith in Netflix’s Lost in Space, but ended up being pretty disappointed. Not the right role for her, or anyway they didn’t let her do her Parker Posey thing with it.

Ok, I was sure I’d done this, but the google doc says no. So here we go! I suspect this will take 5 seconds or I’ll lose :)

In what movie will you see this, after having watched it for 20 minutes, and 20 seconds?

It’s not You Won’t Be Alone, is it? That’s a movie I started to watch but I wasn’t in the right mood and need to restart.

It is not. In fact I don’t even know what that is.

I’m thinking that is either Ireland or Appalachia.

True story, a lot of Appalachia was populated by Irish and Scottish immigrants to the US. They chose a place that reminded them of home and stayed. Most of the families from that region today (including mine) have a mix of Irish and Scottish heritage.

The Secret of Roan Inish?

Ginger_Yellow, obviously a person of class and taste, has correctly identified The Secret of Roan Inish, a John Sayles movie which is one of my favorite movies ever. Damn I love this movie so much.

Now that you’ve seen our heroine from behind, here are some screens of her from the side, and even from the front! Also, some of the other stars of the movie and some credits.

Take it away, @Ginger_Yellow!

It helped that I watched it two weeks ago.

Everyone should watch it every two weeks. So you’re right on schedule.

Noted. Added to my must-watch list!

It’s on Amazon Prime video, and also Kanopy, which you can probably watch if you have a library card.

I hope you like it! If you don’t, don’t tell me, I don’t want to know.

Roan Inish was of the last movies I remember watching with my whole family before I went away to college. Somehow my dad picked it up out of the blue at Blockbuster, and none of us really knew what we were in for. It was go great to watch an original, grounded yet mystery-drenched, and well-told story. Some of the images are still burned into my brain, 30 years later. I haven’t seen it again since then! Thanks for the reminder that it exists!
