Ambulance?

Ding, ding, ding. Michael Bayhem strikes in Ambulance. Aka, Michael Bay discovers that FPV drones exist. And like any teenage boy given a new toy, he goes crazy with it. FPV drones are the new lens flare!

But, yeah, Ambulance. This is actually a remake of a European movie, which I imagine was a lot darker. But in Bay’s hands, it’s just pure and total Bayhem. Dude is 57 and he’s never grown up. This movie is a bizarre tonal seesaw between Bay’s juvenile stylings, and then cops are getting killed. It’s like he wanted to make his Heat, without understanding what made Heat work.

I will give him one credit: in the hands of most directors, this action in this movie would be 99% CGI. But Bay keeps it as real and practical as possible. Well, the action sequences, that is. Too bad he can’t do that with human emotions or the script.

Hah.

And one last tidbit. Usually modern day big budget action movies have end credits that take forever as they go through about three continents worth of VFX studios. Bay kept a tight and small crew on this one. After all the above the line folks get their name on screen, the end credits are a cool 60 seconds. All you need is a handful of stunt drivers and helicopter pilots. That’s like 80% of this movie.

I scrolled past this on Amazon the other night, which is why it’s on my mind. From your description, I think I can calibrate my expectations accordingly and have a bit of fun with it.

I’ve never seen this, and have no evidence, but that image screams Wes Anderson."

It’s from the new Kids in the Hall revival.

Ah hah.

The new 20:20!

Relic?

Nope, not that.

That looks like Rebecca Hall

Night House?

Demanding credit for this joke! ;)

Not The Night House.

Is that her new one, Resurrection? I haven’t seen it yet, being honest, but I’m definitely planning to. I think it’s on Shudder now.
