The $99 Sylvania Netbook ... (really)

You’d be way better off taking $100 and buying a used laptop or netbook with an x86-compatible chip in it than using one of these, even for your 10 year old.

Don’t do it, kids will hate you. Give them hand-me-downs, not crippled things.

Some good friends of ours bought it as a Christmas present & have returned it because of the lack of Flash; it really is a deal breaker for kids. They did a bunch of research after Christmas Day & found a ton of people complaining about the same issue with no real good solution.

The joys of buying a bargain.

I have to deal with a few of these things where I work; our company sells a modem/router that so far has refused to interface with these things, no matter what we try.

The modem/router is junk, but the Sylvania netbooks are definitely bad pieces of equipment.

Yeah, buy your kids a used laptop or netbook that runs on x86/Atom on eBay over this thing. Or wait for ChromeOS netbooks or something. Buying them this as a laptop to replace the one they want to borrow is barely better than buying them one of those vtech toy laptops.

Yep..
