10000000?

Gunpoint?

Not bad guesses. Will this do it for someone?

Beneath a steel sky?

The fire gives it away. :)

Nope!

Before I do the give-away shot, here’s a hint, in the form of the same screenshot, but different:

Cave Story?

geggis got it! Good job, geggis. The last shot is from Cave Story+'s revamped graphics.

Oh, cool!

Will post something later on when I get back on my computer. Got to dash for work now…

Ha, I was so going to guess that, but I thought we must have done it already!

Frame 1!

Banner Saga?

Okami?

It’s neither of those.

Frame 2!

Whatever it is, I’m fascinated to find out!

Art Nouveau Platforming RPG!

Ah, thanks nightgaunt. That’s Abyss Odyssey, a game (roguelike) I beat in my first playthrough and never touched since.

It is an art nouveau platforming fighting game with RPG/roguelike elements, so you were reaaaally close…

Hmm, looks like Juan has it. One thing is for sure with Atlus games, they imbue their games with some style.

That’s not Atlus (they were the publisher, not the developer) but ACE team (a Chilean company responsible of Zeno CLash among others).

Well observed Nightgaunt and spot on Juan! Abyss Odyssey it is.

It’s funny, my best run at the Abyss so far has been my first one, but I didn’t beat it! Every run since has been from the other entrances which start you deeper down and subsequently in harder areas so I’ve fared much worse. I think the first entrance gives you a greater ‘run up’ with gold and gear because of the additional easy chambers to clear out first, but it takes longer. With all the doomed runs I’ve been making though, it’s been interesting coming across little surprises like the cursed violinist or a hard-as-nails demonic lion-thing boss on the surface. I get the feeling that these won’t be the only oddities I’ll encounter.

Either way, it’s really got its claws in me at the moment. I’m a sucker for Art Nouveau but the graphics are otherwise gorgeous and the Castlevania feel, roguelike elements and Smash Bros.-style combat all work together really well.

Oh, wow. Wishlisted!!
