Hey, you leave reptiles out of it. They’re smart enough not to have a two-party system in the first place. And if any candidate is clearly a bit shit, they get eaten.

Is that “Big Deal” part of Trumps quote or is it commentary about Trumps quote? If it was said by Trump in a self deprecating manner it makes a big difference.
edited to add: Yeah, I know that Trump being self deprecating in any way is a major stretch but I had to ask.

No way would he have said how brave he was in other ways if he was being in any way self-deprecating.
I’m not sure this entirely stupid on Trump’s part, but it according to this NY TImes article is over reporting his income by listing gross receipts instead of income his disclosure forms.
This seems pretty dumb though.
In recent years, Mr. Trump has made major investments in golf resorts. He bought the Doral golf resort near Miami in 2012 for $150 million, of which $104 million represented the real estate for property tax purposes.
After the appeal of his property taxes was heard in June, the special magistrate, Leonardo Delgado, lowered the resort’s property taxes by $46,534.
At one point during the hearing, Mr. Delgado stared at the income and expense report showing that Doral had lost $2.4 million in 2014, a number that did not even include millions of dollars in mortgage payments. Mr. Delgado began to chuckle and turned to the county property assessor, Murry Harris.
“So he spent $104 million to lose two and a half million dollars a year,” Mr. Delgado said. “I know how to lose that money without having to spend $104 million. How ’bout you, Murry?”
And this is why the FBI needs to keep its damn mouth shut- people cannot distinguish between “being investigated by the FBI” and “being guilty of a crime.”
Self-deprecating. I hate to say it because I despise Trump, but the quote also commonly leaves out some important context, making it more inflammatory:
“They’re so much more brave than me, I wouldn’t have done what they did."
“I’m brave in other ways, I’m brave – I’m financially brave. Big deal, right? These are real brave.”

The man is physically unable to not make everything about him though. What I hear when I’m watching that video: “These men are brave. I’m brave too. It’s a different type of brave and you probably don’t think it’s a big deal, but I’m brave, dammit. Oh, and they’re brave too”.
I’m 100% sure my view of that video is tainted by my total disdain for the man.
Oh, he’s totally making it all about him. Even though (in my view) it’s clearly self-deprecating, he’s doing that only to steal back the spotlight.
Trump is capable of some self deprecating charm, playing off his own giant ego. His little aside about the Emmys in debate 3 was funny.
What, petulantly interrupting to say The Apprentice should have won an Emmy is self deprecating?
I mean, sure it was funny, but precisely because it wasn’t self-deprecating. He couldn’t even let something that trivial slide without propping up his own ego.
I saw an fluff interview with him before Halloween where they showed him one of the halloween masks of his face. He said it was much better looking than him and he thought he should wear it from now on. I was shocked. Dude can be legitimately charming when he wants to.
That wasn’t self deprecating per se, but it was playing knowingly off his own reputation for having a huge ego. It worked, entirely because of his tone of voice and facial expression in delivery. Trump is like Tommy in Goodfellas. He’s a funny guy to be around at the drunken dinner table. Until he shoots you.

Apparently he was really good to work with for the Comedy Central Roast they did of him. He gave suggestions on insults, worked with the writers on his “comebacks” etc.
Seems like he’s fine with insults, as long as he can take credit/is involved. It’s the “haters” that he isn’t in control of that upset him. You know, like 150+ country leaders that will be hurling insults at him if he wins.

This may be the most apt description I have ever read of Trump. Well played

I think the fact they were paying him probably helped his mood!
Self-deprecating humor isn’t really low-ego. It is either super-high ego (“I know I have this flaw, that’s what makes me so great!”) or at least super attention-seeking (“Tell me I don’t have this flaw!”). In this particular case, it’s more like a stylemog to use an alt-right framing. He is asserting his status by being the source of compliments, and asserting his expertise for giving those compliments by pointing out his own strengths as a humblebrag.
