Whenever the crazies on any side feel like they are about to lose control there is always this increase in mad rhetoric. Feels comforting to me, actually. I’m gonna roll myself in a schedenfraude burrito Tuesday.

Or, might be in for a huge surprise and shock. They’ve got to figure out a more accurate way to predict these things. Though ultimately that’s impossible because you’d have to know the mind of every citizen.

Man, that really does smell of desperation. I really can’t even begin to fathom what it’s like to live in a world where even 10% of those articles are accepted as truth.

This whole polarization reminds me of the time when my sister-in-law became estranged from her brother and my wife. They were discussing something that happened when they were growing up, and the sis-in-law related something really off-the-wall. My wife looked at her and said something like “that’s not what happened! That’s not the truth!” And sis-in-law said “that’s my truth.” From that point on there was no way to find a common ground. How can you, when reality becomes malleable?

What sucks about the deluge of articles like that is that you can’t argue against every single one, since their intended audience finds in their sheer size and volume their credibility, and frankly, they’re being created faster than you could possible address them. Around the too-credulous deplorables where i live i find they demand something like a point by point refutation of every point in every single single article. They’re incapable of assigning whole classes of this spam to the trash pile, they’re unable to discern the differences between a random, unattributed Facebook meme and actual journalism, they accept that the volume of content means something. I’ve actually been in yelling arguments where i’m accused of being unable to “accept anything” because i’m not willing to accept that some random creepy hillbilly guy in a random Facebook video says his random source said that Hillary Clinton walked off stage and started cursing “in the foulest language my source has ever heard” and started ranting that “she’s going to kill [whoever made her angry]” - because how is it possible for someone to make that up? (No one ever asks of course how a random, poorly spoken hillbilly has a such a source to begin with.) I mean, he was talking for 10 minutes about what she did? There were like more than a dozen quotes of hers? There’s no way what he accuses her of can be made up, not that detailed. Right? Their own intellectual limitations seems to make this kind of nonsense happen.

I think it’s because there was very little positive Trump coverage early in the campaign, and as he became the real candidate there was a need to satisfy that market. So somehow the result is that we now get every right-wing meme and exaggerated “news” story magnified 1000x by Facebook headline sweatshops.
