Honestly, I want to have a conversation with a Trump supporter that hates the media. I want to know why they hate them so much. I’m not talking about a yelling match where they say “the media is rigged!” over and over again. I want a reasonable one-on-one conversation where both sides calmly present their positions and evidence. I’m not talking about the guy in the shirt; that moron is clearly the “yell about it until the other person gives up in disgust” camp.

As I’ve said in the past, I have a few people in my office that are verbal Trump supporters (I suspect there are a bunch that are quiet Trump supporters. This is, after all, Nebraska). However, they are reasonable people who aren’t anti-press. They are smart people who understand that most of the BS on Facebook and Twitter is fake and not actual news. The reasons they are voting for Trump are simple. 1) they are die-hard GOP. 2) they think Obama has been a disaster and figure Hillary is 4 more years of the same. 3) they think HRC is a corrupt “business as usual” politician that would use the White House to line the pockets of her family.

They refuse to think too hard about Trump, who is tearing apart the GOP they are committed to, has been a disaster for every organization he’s been a part of, and has been repeatedly shown to be corrupt and interested only in lining his own pockets, to the extent that he won’t even distance his children from foreign sources of income if elected.

Man, that really does smell of desperation. I really can’t even begin to fathom what it’s like to live in a world where even 10% of those articles are accepted as truth.

This whole polarization reminds me of the time when my sister-in-law became estranged from her brother and my wife. They were discussing something that happened when they were growing up, and the sis-in-law related something really off-the-wall. My wife looked at her and said something like “that’s not what happened! That’s not the truth!” And sis-in-law said “that’s my truth.” From that point on there was no way to find a common ground. How can you, when reality becomes malleable?

Honestly, it reminds me of how cults operate.
