On the other hand “Kushner winning” normalises the rampant nepotism in the Trump White House. On balance, it’s probably a net positive, but it’s not exactly something to celebrate.

I agree with you completely in reference to Trump. But in reference to what I want from the administration, until which time we can get someone/anyone better in there, a swing toward more moderate and away from so far right it’s fucking insane would be a step in the right direction. I guess?
It’s insane that I’m hoping the son-in-law of an acting President helps things.
If Kushner continues to seize power, one wonders when the Republican Party will turn on Trump to get Pence in charge.
I completely agree with you except for one thing I believe Bannon and Priebus are more often pulling Trump in opposite directions. The 180 degree turns (e.g. Syria) are inherently dangerous. Ivanka and Kushner are both more moderate, and also would be consistent. The next four years of the Trump Presidency are all about damage control. I’d consder the following a win: unemployment under 8%, and no more than one nuclear bomb going off in the world, and Russia only annexing Ukraine
What we have right now is a cranky toddler driving a truck full of nitroglycerin at 90 miles per hour while the drunken Nazi in the seat next to him cheers him on.
If the drunken Nazi were to fall out of the truck, I would stand and cheer. But this not the same as as saying I would expect the fundamental situation to improve much.

Excellently presented point.
The problem is, and always has been, that no one outside of ethics experts seem to give a shit what Trump and his cronies do while in the White House.

Winner.
There is nothing that will be done, nor a word said about it other than a grumble or two. As it stands right now, there is a constant comparison of the number of days Obama was out of office versus Trump. All that will happen here is there will be a new high water mark. Neither the legislative branch nor judicial branch can really do anything about it. A law would need to be created and actually enforced for anything to happen. Or, the people need to just vote the shithead out of office.
There is also an option for impeachment, but over Mar-a-Lago? Let’s be real here.
All the Mar-A-Lago stuff, the Melania and Barron in Trump Tower stuff, the ethics stuff and the nepotism stuff will do is add fuel to the fire when Trump’s Presidency finally does come crashing down. None of these things in and of themselves, or even lumped together, is enough to bring impeachment or get him voted out in 2020, but they’ll be there, ready to be talking points, when something like the Russia investigation leads to impeachment talk, or when his terrible foreign relations track record and inability to actually deliver on a single domestic policy promise turn voters against him in 2020.
It’s absolutely crazy that there have been at least a dozen things during the Trump Presidency thus far that would have, individually, ignited a firestorm around any previous President. But the outrageous shit just keeps coming so fast that there is never time to focus on any one thing, and in the end we have a dozen things that could have sunk anyone else but they bounce off and are forgotten in the 24/7 news cycle because something even more insane is always 72 hours away.
Speaking of which, more distracting fuel for the fire.
Obama always had Passover seders at the White House, which he and the First Lady attended.
The Trump Administration continued the recent tradition last night. But Trump didn’t show. Neither did the First Lady. And neither did Ivanka or Kushner, despite being (nominally) Administration officials and, you know, jewish.
Had the positions been reversed, this would have released a shitstorm of criticism about Obama’s perceived “arrogance” for the slight. As it is, we’ll get a few hours of the press mumbling about Oh Did You Hear About Those Wacky Trumps before moving on to stories about Donnie gettting his head stuck in a cardboard box or something.

This is what I keep cycling back to about the Trump phenomena. He somehow distracts from his disqualifying activities with MORE disqualifying activities. I wonder if he ever actually got around to acting Presidential for a couple of months, if all this stuff wouldn’t just come back and sink him.

Gotta signal Pepe that you still love him after Syria.

He’s like a broken record… going on and on about Crooked Hillary. What an idiot.

They still blame things on the Obama/Clinton opposition. As if Hillary was actively working in the WH or something all the way up until Obama left office. Or as if they two were in collusion for anything and everything negative that happens, even now.
I’m 100% sure Trump has an actual tinfoil hat somewhere.
It’s hard imagining anyone worse for a president. Bachmann, Palin, King? I can’t begin to understand how anyone finds this clown appealing outside of projection.
Anyway, more crap.
