To be clear, I wasn’t making an argument in favor of Trump in any fashion. Just predicting how people that do support him would rationalize such comments.
As other have said, when it comes to Trump, the argument isn’t just about how he connects in private versus public, it’s somehow that his policy positions and views change between private versus public. Heck, it’s basically admitting that he’s throwing out malarkey to his base and that his true (mainstream) views come out in private. That’s crazy sauce.
That’s rationalization sauce. It’s the perfect blank slate onto which the viewer is invited to project their perfect President. “Look, we know The Donald comes on a bit strong, but really he’s an amazing guy - any of the things he says that you don’t like are just him grandstanding, he doesn’t really mean it. Think of the Supreme Court and how to keep that lying shrew’s hands off it.”
Hillary is a dreadful speaker. I’m a pretty good public speaker and I don’t believe I’ve ever given as bad as speech as Hillary did for her nomination speech. Her voice modulation is horrible, she steps on her applause lines, and she never looks away from the teleprompter. She is thanking her daughter for that introduction and she has to read from the teleprompter ugh. Her speeches are filled with cliches and are typically too long, a Clinton characteristics. Now I don’t envy any President have to follow Barrack Obama to the presidential podium, but I think you have to go back even further than Al Gore to Michael Dukakis to find a nominee quite as wooden as Hillary.
Trump is actually pretty good, he uses humor well, and he is a natural on TV. Trump is a lot better when he is mad than when is trying to deliver a serious message.
But as far as TV rating there is no contest, by Jan 2018 nobody but bored reporters, Chelsa and staffers will be watching President Hillary’s speeches. While Trump speeches, are things you’ll want to watch live because the potential for a horrific gafffe is so high, and if he starts a nuclear war, I want as much time as possible to get to Vault 111.

Got to love this…I guess taking credit for what one of your likely Cabinet members arranged is ok though, right?

Trump has lied about charity donations a ton of times already… I think it’s the one thing, above all else, that makes him HATE the WaPo… because they have caught him doing this before, and shamed him into actually having to donate his money to this stuff.
I suspect President Hillary will give 3 speeches prior to 2020 (not counting White House press dinners): Her inauguration, and 2 State of the Union. If she gives any others it will likely be reluctantly, unless I’m missing some mandatory ones. That said, if she’s really that bad at speeches, why did she get so much money for giving them?
TBF, are six-figure Goldman Sachs et al speeches anything other than a ridiculous ego stroke for upper management?
“In regards to your inquiry about our relative available balances of fucks and dollars, please refer to the speaking series about $whogivesafuck by this list of past Presidents and Cabinet Secretaries.”
(Have I mentioned that the financial industry should be literally burned to the ground recently? Because it would be a net win for society, just sayin’. I seriously believe that future historians will look at this era and just shake their heads at the idea that this absurd vampire class sucking profits out of the global economy for literally no benefit was something we tolerated.)
Hillary’s trade is selling influence for money. The speeches were not some ego trip for business executives, they are an unspoken quid pro quo, what establishment politics on both sides of the aisle is built on.

The banks hire Clinton for the same reasons they hire Neil Degrasse Tyson or Gary Kasparov or whoever – they get clients to come in to and meet and greet their heroes, and feeling good afterwords they are more likely to sign over some more millions of dollars for the bank to manage or whatever.
And the same for the other institutions, Universities, Medical Conferences, etc, that she spoke at – they get a speaker to attract people to a high priced event, prestige for their organization, whatever. Hillary might be the most famous woman in the world with many demographics (and maybe generally?)

I went to a funeral once of a young lady just a little older than me that died of diabetic complications. She left behind her a young daughter, a mother and a generally disinterested and disengaged father. That father stood up at the end of the service and told everyone there he would pay for her burial services. I was friends of the young lady’s mother who looked so unhappy with the announcement, I just didn’t get it… until she told me she’d never see a dime from him, and she never did.
Trump has the same personality as that man, all the right words, at the right time and the right place but no follow through, no commitments and generally not a honorable character at all. It’s worse than the status quo; it’s telling the world your one person while only a few bother to look past the facade to see there’s nothing there.
Actually prior to the 20th century, the constitutionally required “state of the union” reports were delivered in a written form. If Hillary is wise she’ll return to that fine tradition. Perhaps making a show of delivering the written report to the Speaker along with all of the hand shaking etc. Then she can have a designated speaker give a shorten version of the her report, kinda of like the Republican response to the state of the union.
This is a stupid thing trump tweeted back in March. His convention speech wasn’t the first time he applied to become Dear Leader:

Someone found something interesting:
There are non-hyperbolic tweets?

Yeah, there are periodically just standard nothing tweets like, “Looking forward to our rally in X!”
“They fight like hell for six months, and they’re saying horrible things, the worst things you can imagine,” Trump said. “And then one of them loses, one of them wins. And the one who loses says, ‘I just want to congratulate my opponent. He is a brilliant man, he’ll be a great governor or president or whatever.’”
He continued: “I’m not sure you’re ever going to see me there. I don’t think I’m going to lose, but if I do, I don’t think you’re ever going to see me again, folks. I think I’ll go to Turnberry and play golf or something.”

This sounds like a plea for help. I think we need to incarcerate him for his own protection and put him on suicide watch before its too late!
