That…that can’t be right…can it? Oh god, what if it is? I mean…he actually said that?

I still can’t believe they nominated the king of the Birthers. And imagine that, he’s going with a Birther narrative.
Imagine if the Democrats had nominated the dude that made Loose Change for President. Then imagine he was also a complete asshole that hated democracy and rule of law.

Founder of ISIS…wow. I honestly can’t wait to hear the next insane thing to plop out of his mouth. And luckily he doesn’t make us wait long. Damn you, Jon Stewart…unretire!!

I saw someone point out something interesting about Trump supporters: they never defend Trump, they always deflect into an attack on Clinton or liberals or the like. I’d say it’s pretty accurate from everything I’ve seen.
Trump does something horrific. “Oh but Hillary did something else and she’s terrible.”
The only people to “defend” him seem to be neo-Nazi’s and their ilk, though I’m not sure saying it’s time to fire up the ovens or the like is really a defense per se.
WaPo goes through the deposition from that libel suit about him being worth less than a billion dollars.. It’s really quite a good insight into the self-justification process of a pathological liar and narcissist. He’s literally making up new lies as he’s caught in old ones.
And this is one of the more scary things about this election campaign. I’ve rarely if ever seen a case where the supporters of a candidate don’t eventually praise him or her on his or her own merits, even if spurious. But this election seems, for some, to be some sort of atavistic tribal ritual akin to ritual cannibalism and dancing around a fire prior to raiding an enemy village for plunder and pillage.

This is amazing; it pretty much defines exactly what Trump is.
Man you know you’ve strayed far when Reagan’s family is horrified by the GOP nominee.

Yeah, classic Trump…
“What basis do you have for that statement?” Ceresney asked in one case, about an assertion from Trump that O’Brien had been reported to the police for stalking.
“I guess that was probably taken off the Internet,” Trump said.

“You wrote, ‘O’Brien . . . threatened sources by telling them he can, quote, settle scores with enemies by writing negative articles about them,’ ” Ceresney asked, reading Trump’s words from a legal complaint. “What was the basis for that statement?”
“Just my perception of him,” Trump said. “I don’t know that he indicated anything like that to me, but I think he probably did indirectly.”

The lawyers asked: “Have you ever not been truthful” about your net worth?
Trump’s answer here was that the truth about his wealth was — in essence — up to him to decide.
“My net worth fluctuates, and it goes up and down with markets and with attitudes and with feelings, even my own feelings,” Trump said. “But I try.”
The most beautiful possible end to this election would be if Trump somehow ends up like the Duke brothers. The Trading Places variety, not the ones found in Hazzard.
Clinton is now down by two in a recent poll.
For South Carolina.
Sad!
That cannot be real. How can anybody be taking this guy seriously? I am still living in hope that this entire campaign is the most amazing trolling the world has ever seen.

Trump, still holding onto the lead in the battleground state of… south carolina.
If we get closer to the election and he’s still losing so baddly in the polls, I can actually see him just throwing all of his supporters under the bus, and painting them as the xenophoic imbeciles they are. He could totally do this, saying, “I wasn’t even trying to win. Obviously! I was saying the worst stuff I could possibly imagine, and these idiots kept supporting me! I even literally pointed out that they were so stupid that they would support me even if I murdered someone! I literally said that! To their faces! And they cheered! Sad!”
It would be so amazing, and I can totally see him doing it because I’m 100% certain that he would rather make all of those people look like idiots, than lose face himself by losing in the election.
Has the right’s anti-intellectualism and anti-facts ethos reached this point?

I don’t think some of you understand just how distorted of a reality many Republicans live in. When Trump says things like this, it’s not making his supporters less likely to support him. It’s complete confirmation bias.
Trump supporters are thoroughly convinced that Obama and Clinton are directly responsible for ISIS thanks to conservative talk radio and Fox News feeding them those lies for years. They don’t care about the fact that it was Bush who invaded Iraq in the first place and Obama voted against the war, all they care about is that they claim Obama “pulling out of Iraq” causes ISIS to form in a power vacuum.
There’s no nuance to it, no critical thinking, no acknowledgement that many people across many parties screwed up. They want to hang Obama for treason because they think he personally is responsible for the rise of ISIS, and Clinton right there with him.
So this latest line of attack from Trump will probably help him with his base, not hurt him. It might even sway back some people on the fence.
