The Assassination of Jesse James etc

It’s possible that I’m underestimating your level of confusion with respect to the language issue. If I got little or nothing in the whole first half of the movie, that might have been a problem.

Really? That monologue about how DDL wants to get away from humanity because he hates everyone was one of the best scenes I saw that year. Probably the best. The other scene in that movie that really sticks out was the beginning, which was all him and not even dialog. I can describe that scene to someone and it will lack the power of just watching it. That is, it has an ethereal, haunting, desperate quality that is directly associated with Daniel Day Lewis’s acting chops. There is no looking at the camera crying, no dialog, not even music. Just a man working in dangerous conditions, trying to make his fortune, all alone in the world. It’s a fantastic scene and I can’t even really tell you why.
