I remember once reviewing the code of an older guy who had made the transition from mainframes and learned C. His code was all structured like a COBOL program, to the extent that he had created an include file that #defined a bunch of expressions like PROCEDURE_DIVISION to translate to something like main() when it hit the preprocessor. It was kinda scary.
COBOL is still in demand in a bunch of banks and the like.
And always will be.
