Get me started on socialist/anti-capitalist hip-hop at your own peril ;)

Tupac was very much an activist artist.

Okay, I’m sorry to go back to an earlier tangent, but I just saw this Twitter thread from a Presbyterian pastor specifically addressing “are Mormons Christians?” so it seemed relevant and timely to share:

It helpfully articulates a couple of the most incompatible aspects of Mormonism and Christianity from a doctrinal standpoint but also gets into why that may not be obvious to many Mormons (or Christians, I imagine).

And why is Niceno-Constantineopolitan doctrine the arbiter of who gets to be Christian or not? Mormons see Jesus as the Son of God and follow his teachings (to the extent that other Christians do). That makes them Christian, IMO.

To be fair, all this stuff seems to be silly gatekeeping with people bickering about who their imaginary friend is really friends with so there’s undoubtedly a lot I don’t (and don’t care to) understand about the debate.

Bickering over the Nicene Creed is really only possible in the last 20 years thanks to the internet giving ample opportunity for anyone never before interested to become informed / opinionated again. If you asked Christians 60 years ago what the Nicene Creed was or what it meant I suspect the vast majority couldn’t tell you a single thing about it or why it would matter.

I think there are a couple of non-Nicene Christian branches still puttering about, usually they’re new things rather than survivors of an antique tradition though.

I’m pretty sure the problem with rejecting the Nicene Creed is the equivalent of tossing up your hands and starting over in Christianity. It would be the equivalent of saying Muhammed was a prophet but the Koran is just a book or something - more or less starting over the entire theological framework from scratch.

Rejecting the Nicene Creed is basically a long winded version of saying the “accused” reject what the mainstream believes to be a Christian. So maybe Jesus isn’t divine, or isn’t co-equal with God, or whatever. If it’s all magic men in the sky, i guess it doesn’t really matter from the outside looking in, but it probably does matter a whole lot from the inside looking out. Jesus that isn’t divine, for ex., means you shouldn’t really pray to Jesus ever, just to God. There’s no point in communion then, ect.

Why are you ignoring the French toast?

Euro hating scum!

I had a savoury version of a pancake cake for my 21st birthday.

Layers of mushrooms and chicken and creamy sauce, and cheese too I think.

It was awesome.

Catholics recite the creed every liturgy.

Other points of possible contention: Mary’s virgin provenance, baptism for the remission of sins, one holy catholic and apostolic church. One can easily reject parts of the creed and still call oneself Christian.

Mostly because, unlike Pancakes or Waffles, French Toast requires premade bread. I think that makes it different from Pancakes and Waffles, which are made from scratch, directly with flour.

French Toast is great, but it’s just a whole other thing, if that makes sense.

I don’t know. We do use the Apostles Creed in the United Church of Christ.

Ecumenical Version

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

We even at times use the term catholic church, although that doesn’t mean the Roman Catholic Church church.

The term catholic is used in the old fashion to mean ‘universal’. So we believe in a single universal church, something that can encompass more then just the Roman Catholic Church.

I would not be surprised if we switch to Holy Universal Church at times to avoid the confusion.

Fuck no we aren’t going back to talk about religion.

Pancakes are delicious. Waffles are delicious. I appreciate everyone who posted their related faves too.

Can we talk about cookies now? I love a good chocolate chip but I think white chocolate macadamia may be my favorite “standard” cookie.

White chocolate is not chocolate. It is in fact, not-chocolate!

There, I’ve said it.

Aside from renaming all things white chocolate to something else we are stuck with it. I agree with you technically but WTF (2021) am I supposed to call it?

“White-not-chocolate macadamia nut cookies”?

Fragile Chocolate.

The solution is no white chocolate. Thereby eliminating the naming problem!

This is very good. Or maybe ‘economically anxious’ chocolate?

Sugar based desert.

I may be odd in that I don’t really have a sweet tooth. I mean I enjoy eating sweet things, but can leave them too. I don’t really have a favorite cookie.

I had a conversation yesterday whether you could have popcorn or a hot bready pretzel with mustard-and-cheese sauce, or bacon for dessert. I think you totally can. I also wonder whether savory ice cream flavors would be any good. (e.g. jalepeno cheddar or creamy panang curry or tomato bisque or etc flavors.)

Sounds hot, dry and sticky.

One of the great things about here is that popcorn is considered food. You’ll get a bowl of popcorn to eat before you are served your lunch. People also use it as a garnish for soups, stews, ceviches, etc.

OK, I’m moving there. Popcorn is my favorite food. I know a little bit of Spanish.

And it gets everywhere.

The word for popcorn is canguil. Important and useful info.
