That is indeed a hot take. As a take reviewer, I should know.

Oh good, we are discussing the attire/appearance of a female representative. That seems perfectly reasonable since that’s our habit in P&R with male representatives as well.

I’m happy to discuss Manchin’s attire if you like. Let’s start at “stodgy.”

Come on. We’re not discussing Nancy Pelosi or Elizabeth Warren and asking who wore it better. If Rand Paul wore a bright purple tuxedo to Congress we’d discuss that too.

Also, there are several posts on this very forum of people grousing about Trump’s baggy, ill-fitting, expensive off-the-rack but untailored suits.

Which isn’t to say that there is not a double standard on this issue and I do think some (not all or even most) of the complaints about her attire are rooted in sexism of some kind. However, Sinema is mostly discussed because she very noticeably dresses differently than other senators who otherwise dress the same. If one of her male colleagues was, say, a Southern dandy with clean-fitting white suits and ostentatiously knotted pocket squares, I think it would come up too (if not, I’d certainly bring it up), but none of them have the guts to peacock (though, if there is someone like that, please someone post). The closest we seem to have is Bill Cassidy, but he doesn’t quite cut it (doesn’t even both to have a pocket square!).

Yeah, this. Making a public person’s appearance a verboten subject if they’re not a white dude serves nobody.

Now, there are plenty of ways to discuss e.g. Sinema’s appearance that absolutely are sexist and should be shamed out of any reputable discussion. But “My God, her outfit certainly matches her performance as a Senator, does it not?” doesn’t even come close for me, at least.

If that was the standard for Congressional attire there’d be a clown shoe and pancake makeup shortage for sure.

I dunno, have you ever referred to Mitch McConnell as a turtle, or enjoyed the various memes that do so? That has nothing to do with his clothing, it’s mocking him for what his body is as an elderly man.

Maybe you haven’t, maybe you have, but there’s not a whole lot of height to that particular pedestal. I despise the man for a whole bunch of reasons, and I also enjoy mocking him for his appearance, but I don’t try to put myself above that. I’m cheap. I’m tacky. I’m not throwing stones.

Thats little red dress lady isn’t it? Not clicking…

Has VEVO fallen on really hard times or something?

OMG, LOL. As she’s not a known associate of H Jon Benjamin, this has to be part of her Sociology thesis project :)

Well, she stays closer to the actual expected/correct notes in Fantasy than she does in Red Dress song, so there’s that!

That’s not saying much.

It would be ironic if it were a police officer’s child.

So I guess this is a thing.

Hammocking between 75,000 kilovolt power lines just isn’t my idea of relaxing.

Why is this a thing?
