Yes if we all stop shopping at Walmart all the little mom and pop business around the country will re-appear and everything we buy will be American made.

I think there’s also a conversation to be had about store exclusives. But neither are really something I’d want to see ongoing in the Bargain Thread, which is meant to be about exciting ways to further financially ruin myself.

It may have nothing to do with mom and pop shops, but rather how Walmart treats its workers in the US and abroad. There’s plenty of reasons for not shopping at Walmart.
Hey, who wants to hear about some bargains?
Amazon’s 15 Days, 15 Deals is Saints Row 2-centric today. They’re offering the Collector’s Editions of the game for PS3 and 360 for $49.98. The regular editions are $41.98 on PS3 and $44.98 on 360.
That actually reminds me. I saw a sign advertising Saints Row 2 for the 360 and PS3 at FYE for $39.99 over the weekend.

Don’t know if folks have already seen this, but the Rock Band 2 Special Edition is selling for $110 at Toys ‘R’ Us this week, and you get a $25 gift card to boot.
I picked one up, and was surprised at how many they had.

You have persistence confused with persuasiveness. Common mistake.
I’m not sure how that is relevant, but anyone who thinks they can make an argument for shopping at Wal-Mart other than “I will save money” hasn’t done their research, and I’m not doing it for them. Back to bargains.
Sorry, I object to shopping at Amazon.
I know that’s probably a joke, but I do feel somewhat guilty lately about doing all my shopping at Amazon. The local newspapers and TV news has been going on and on about how in these economic times it’ll make a huge difference if people choose to shop locally and help the local economy instead of shopping online at stores like Amazon. But 90% of my Christmas shopping this season has been from Amazon.
Just be careful there’s a lot of price gouging going on by Amazon partners right now especially on toys. Common items that are sold out are being jacked 100% for instance I saw a standard play-doh activity table that normally goes for 30 being sold for 70.
It’s going to be painful in transition, but more efficient methods of commerce is ultimately the socially responsible route.
Ideally, mom and pop shops start using the internet, too, and find that they can save money and still offer specialty services that big chains don’t.

Amazon is just too easy for me not to use it. Sorry local shops but my desire for easy shopping overrides my sense of community.

Amazon’s significantly lower prices in most cases also overrides my sense of community.
I try to make up for it by purchasing my foods and whatnot from local producers.
What’s also objectionable about Wally World is that they treat their workforce like cattle. I don’t think Amazon has the same reputation.
Don’t derail this thread!
I’m buying gifts off of Amazon today just because it’s -30C outside, so screw the malls.
