There’s actually a Qt3 Left 4 Dead group that you can join under Steam Community, which should get you started.

Haha, Direct2Drive is having a Valentines day sale.
http://www.direct2drive.com/staticpage.aspx?topic=valentine09
games like leisure suit larry, private party, vampire bloodlines, girls of gaming issue, ect… are on sale.
It’s a pity they didn’t make the 4-pack half-price too - that would’ve been a no-brainer (HA!) for a LAN event.
Still a great price, though.

I’ll have to do that too, now that I’m on the PC version. I already had it on 360, and I’d say this is in my “yeah, i’ll buy it again” range now, considering how much I’ve enjoyed it.
I don’t think I’ll even mind the pubs as much on this one, same with TF2, but I’ll be glad to have some QT3 players to rock some zombies with.
Now I wonder when Valve will release HL2 skins for the game, or support a mod doing that. Kleiner, Vance, Alyx, and Barney, running through zombies, the idea just really amuses me for some reason, especially if the zombies are the HL2 style, or zombines, or just some really crazy CPs.
Wow, great news on L4D. I might grab it on a whim at that price just to enjoy it while it’s still popular and forget about it until the new content is released.
I’m pretty sure I’ll be playing L4D for a long time, Tim, as I’m sure many others will be as well. I’ve been playing it since the demo for over 20 hours a week, and while there has been some turnover in the group there are quite a few people who have been playing as much as (or much more then) myself who will continue to play it at least semi-regularly until the new content comes out, which will then greatly multiply the longevity of the game.
Anyone with opinions on L4D’s single player content? Seeing as I’ve yet to venture online in TF2, I suspect I’d likely never do so in L4D either. (Although co-op instead of antagonistic might help.)
The sole exception being if I can convince my wife to join in some zombie-killing action with me at some point. But I’d need two separate copies for that, right?

It’s how I’ve spent most of my time, and it’s fun. You have to take the lead more, but the AI is certainly competent. They’ll heal each other, stick together, etc.

Good stuff. $25 was about what I was willing to spend to right click zombies in L4D.
It’s insanely tedious.
But then, I don’t find it to be what I’d call fun even in multiplayer.
Single player is tedious.
Multi is a much much better experience, even a great experience at times. It has it’s own tedium, but it’s not tedium out of the gate like single player.
L4D doesn’t even really have single player in the traditional sense of the word. You can play it alone, but is basically just playing a multiplayer focused game with and against bots.
If you get at least one other person to play with it is still fun in this mode as a co-op experience, but I wouldn’t recommend the game if you plan on playing straight up solo.
You know how Halo’s single-player campaign is worthless and the multi-player redeems it? It’s like that, only two orders of magnitude moreso. I can’t imagine playing it for the single-player. Any game picked at random would be more fun.
The sole exception being if I can convince my wife to join in some zombie-killing action with me at some point. But I’d need two separate copies for that, right?
It supports split-screen. Er, on the 360, that is. I guess PCs probably don’t do that?
I played through all the campaigns initially single player. It was pretty good insofar as getting a sense of the maps and the game. There is very little replayability in that, though. For $25 its worth it for that and the chance to someday play it online, where just as everyone says, it shines.

Like others have said, playing L4D singleplayer isn’t ideal, but its great for the first play through or two and gives you a good sense of what to expect. What I think makes this light-on-content game worth the money now though, is what will come out of the future SDK release. We are gonna see some awesome mods/maps.

I agree with everyone regarding L4D singleplayer. Like TF2 this is a game that multiplayer is the main draw.

Not really officially, but you can get it working if you’ve got a 360 controller for the second player.

Tried it yesterday, works great. Shame more PC games don’t do that.

And purchased! Patience – it are indeed a virtue!
edit: L4D on the 360 is a terrible, terrible experience. My brother and I have wood for zombie slaying, but neither of us could muster up sufficient interest to beat more than one film.

Why is it any different than the PC version? (Aside from having to play with a controller, which honestly didn’t bother me.)
