dark messiah seems to be a stinker. crashes (mm.exe has stopped working) on exit every time.
update: that’s pretty funny–using the dll files from the 1.02 crack-no-dvd on gamecopyworld fixed the crash on exit.

So what’s the problem with BG&E and Vista64? I grabbed it from the Steam sale and it seems to run fine, but are there some problems later on that might e.g. make it impossible to finish the game?

The “Central Hall Crash” was a problem on XP too, I think. But there’s tons an tons of patches out there for it now.

I was having trouble running the original Far Cry that I purchased from Steam this weekend. It would not even launch in vista 32. This post solved the problems.

i’m more or less atoning for all the piracy i did in my youth.
The money isn’t going to the companies you pirated from in your youth more than likely so there isn’t much atoning going on here. Just pack ratting and money burning.
My parents were pack rats. If there’s such a thing as a digital pack rat who can keep their outside environment free of clutter I’d say that’s a step up for humanity.
And money burning? I have a friend who just bought 15 Cuban cigars for $240 and smoked them all over the course of a week. So loading up on discount games is probably no worse than people who have other somewhat expensive vices.
Also putting it into perspective, one month’s house payment for me is $1600, I could buy every weekend sale from each gaming service for two years with that kind of money so gaming looks cheap compared to normal living expenses.

I fucking love all these online retailers. Even more competition for my dollars plix pl0x!
Took the plunge at GamersGate and grabbed King’s Bounty. Everything seems fine so far.
I dunno… you could also argue that putting $1600 every two years into paying off the principle of your home could potentially save you thousands of dollars and shorten your loan by years.
So maybe gaming is a more expensive hobby than we think. :)

$1600, jesus, I wish our mortgage payment was $1600. That’d be like a vacation. California home prices… the only downside of living here.
Well, that, and the robot attacks.
That only works if I’m convinced that games in the future will be better than games today, and that I’ll enjoy them more.
I’m hedging that I may be half blind and deaf in retirement so playing GTA4 today is better than playing GTA XII 30 years from now.
My mortgage payment is less than that, and it includes taxes and insurance, plus a stupid PMI (yeah, I plan to take care of that soon).
But I rarely make comparisons to my house payment. Instead, I compare these prices to other games, and they look mighty good. Of course, I only have like 3 Steam games or so (maybe 5). 2 are installed (Peggle Nights and Defense whatever). The impulse buy of a game I’ll probably never play doesn’t affect me as much nowadays. OTOH, I still haven’t played Dark Messiah of M&M or World of Goo, both of which I bought on the cheap (in boxes).
Rock8, thanks for the advice about FC2. I’ll wait for the 360 version.
I’m so glad I bought my house in an inexpensive neighborhood before this latest bubble got started. I paid 125K in 1997 (OK, the interest rates were kind of high then, true) but refi’d in 2003 and now I’m paying around 1K per month which includes taxes and insurance, and an extra 100 toward principal.
But I’m still a cheapstake gamer-- I only pay full price rarely–the last time was Fallout 3 for the PC and before that GTA IV for 360.
Oh Bargain Thread, I hardly knew ye…the horror the horror… IN MY HOME! IN MY BEDROOM! Where my wife sleeps… and my children play with their toys.
Or maybe he’s talking about expiating his past sins through an act of penance. In that case, the money burning is particularly apt.

Hey, if you want to piss money away send it to me. I’ll make sure it goes to the right strippers. Same net effect for you.
Actual screenshot taken today:
All of the empty space in the box had better be filled by diamonds at that price.

You should totally give it to the budget strippers at the Foxy Lady.

You might try newegg.com for the 360 version. I bought it from them a few weeks ago for $25 or $30.
