but but but…ACHIEVEMENTS!
$20 is fair since that’s the normal price on the PC, but for whatever reason it seems like more than it should be on XBLA. 1200 points would’ve been a no brainer. As it is I’ll probably still drop 1600 points on it, but with some consternation.
You hear that XBLA? Steve will be buying - but with consternation! Not much, just some …
But be forewarned, if you’ve got Mr. Big Spender himself feeling pinched then it might be time to dial back the spacebucks.
Why make a fool out of me when I do it so well myself? ;-p The possibility remains that I’ll pass entirely on it at $20 and wait for a discount to $15. I mean, I’ve lived this long without the game, right?
My thoughts exactly…and with the same amount of constipation…er, consternation.
Speaking of “space bucks” are there any rumors of 1600 pt cards going on sale soon for 15 bucks? I know that was happening periodically for a while.
wumpus posted a deal for 4000 point cards after it had already expired a week or two ago, but other than that I haven’t seen any deals for points cards. I’ve been on the lookout though.
I can’t deny having been curious about the series in general, but it sure seems to me that you get the same sort of play out of Hexic, if we’re working with the XBLA. And it came with the thing.
Comparing that to my obsession with sandy boxers, it seems like there’s much more gameplay variation between complex environmental games, but when it comes to puzzle games - well, nobody can beat the original Tetris, right?
What are the significant improvements over Hexic?
I don’t have the game Zen, and I don’t plan on getting it, but this post covers pretty nicely what makes Puzzle Quest/Galactrix different:
I would love to jump on Puzzle Quest but I haven’t completed the first one and my wife would kill me for buying even more games.
Everyone comments about their wallet hurting or lack of time to play these bargains, but I’m quickly realizing what the limiter is in my case…!
There aren’t a lot of similarities between PQ:G and Hexic, even if you’re looking solely at the puzzle game’s mechanics. It plays more like Bejeweled with a twist, where you can get the pieces to drop in any direction depending on how you move them. The mechanics are actually pretty unique for a puzzle game. Then the RPG thing just takes it to a whole other level from your standard puzzle game.
I do have Galactrix, and it’s a lot more tedious and a lot less fun than the original Puzzle Quest. It does have great space-game-feel, though. It’s still an OK timewaster, but nowhere near as compelling as PQ.
C’mon, zen, I covered this in an anti-GWJ rant a coupla weeks back. Galatrix isn’t at all like Hexic. It’s just Puzzle Quest in six directions rather than four.

After forcing myself to suffer through five hours of the absolutely horrendous DS port, I actually never want to play this game again in any iteration.
Yeah, I wasn’t thinking mechanically - I meant more for relative interest … That is, if you’ve already got this kind of puzzle game, is there really a need for that one?
That’s clearly just a personal bias, though, if you guys feel otherwise. I’m interested enough to play a puzzle game, but not so much that I’d feel the need to play the latest-greatest. I also wouldn’t appreciate the relative superiority of a given shmup or MMO - as opposed to a city builder or open world action game.
Er, to be honest … I’ve yet to play PuzzleQuest.
Peggle was the last one I’d played.
really? My reaction was exactly the opposite; I quite like Galactrix and think the first one is just a bejewled clone.
You guys do know there’s already a PQ:G thread, right?
Back on topic, the latest GoGamer sale is up: several PC games for $4 or less. Mostly crap, but what caught my eye: Shadowrun & Battlestations Midway for $3 ea; Act of War & The Movies for $2 ea.
The other good pick there is the adventure game The Experiment, for $4.
