Mine works without drivers in Vista AFAIK. I haven’t installed anything…

Yeah, Vista will usually just install the drivers automatically.
You should be able to get the drivers from this page.
I think that package includes some tools the plain built-in drivers don’t, like a status popup when you hit the guide button. But the last time I used it, it caused trouble with full-screen games, too (it would drop you back to the desktop to display the popup, or something like that)…
I just noticed that Alien Hominid HD is now $5 on XBLA. I haven’t played the XBLA version, but I thought it was a pretty cool game on the gamecube and easily worth that price.
Guitar Hero: Metallica is $48 for 360 and PS3, saw the deal on CAG. I don’t think I can resist that price right after release, after seeing how good the demo was.

Alien Hominid is the epitome of complete shit game design. I don’t know if they were trying to be ironic by “breaking all the rules”, or were just idiots.
A few examples:
The enemies shoot bullets at you. The player has to jump/duck under them. Good mechanic. Oh, I have an idea… let’s make a bunch of dust appear over the bullets so you can’t see where they are. Then the player will have to randomly jump/duck them, having absolutely no idea where they are coming from or where they are on the screen!
Another great one- Boss encounter. Enemies are coming in from the left and right of the screen… getting hit by one or the bullets they shoot will kill the player. Hey, I have a great idea! Let’s make a boss come in from a few screen lengths above the player, and pan up to show the boss, but at the same time keep spawning in enemies the player has to kill and dodge while both the player and the enemies/bullets are off-screen!
But, it’s got really edgy art… so I guess that makes up for the fact that’s it’s chronically flawed as a game.
In summary:

Edit: Save your five dollars to eventually spend on an indie developer that makes games that don’t suck.
Thanks! These seem to be working well. According to the help file, the pop-up status display is disabled during full-screen games. I’ll see how it performs for me.
BTW, I can’t seem to purchase the Tomb Raider deal. I add it to my cart, but Steam won’t display my cart; it just displays a blank white screen. Anyone else having this problem?
Good news for SMAC fans. ‘Alpa centauri complete’ is being sold on the budget label ‘sold out’ for £4.99 in stores and on amazon.
It includes the main game and the expansion Alien crossfire. As the standalone price for that expansion has been kinda crazy for the last few years this is a great deal. It is also a windows xp/vista friendly version.

I picked up Conan for the 360 at Best Buy for $15 yesterday. It’s a pretty nice God of War clone at that price. Sorry if it’s been posted before.

You are going to hate the last boss of that game.
I hated every boss in that game. Mostly I hated the last level set, I don’t remember the last boss being particularly bad.

I might have already been too tired when I did it, but avoiding the tentacles whilst having to fend off waves of gooey pests was annoying enough, turning the cogs with all that going on was an exercise in patience. They could have done away with any one of those three elements and it would have been fine, instead they made you do it three times with quick time events wedged in-between. It’s like it was designed to drive me up the wall.
I don’t remember much about any of the other bosses, which is both a good and a bad, I guess. Actually, the penultimate boss and his stupid bolas you had to mash your way out of, he was annoying as well.

Forget that. Now that the DSi is out, has anyone seen any good deals for a DS Lite? I’m still using a damn DS fat and it makes me feel like a loser to be seen with it.
Also, I’m sad that I missed the conversation about couches. When I broke up with my lady I decided that couches were for suckers. My game room is just a surround sound setup and a 37" LCD all pointed at my LaZBoy. Who needs couches? That just suggests I want other people to be there with me! Pfft.
Though I do wish my surround sound would stop picking up a local gospel AM station. I need to get some RFI reducers.
I was thinking of arguing to replace our loveseat with a recliner, since we hardly have any big groups over anymore …
