I’m now on day 6 for the full price ground shipping on my order from their last Madness, so, yeah.

Er…no it’s not?

Er…yes it was at the time I posted. Looks like you missed out.

Some good deals up today:

Direct2drive has 1701 A.D. gold for $14.95 and The Maw for $4.95.

Helldorado!

Amazon DotD is Mirror’s Edge, PC or 360 versions for $20. Great deal. I would highly recommend the game at that price. It can get frustrating for some people, especially the combat sequences if you’re trying to do them without using weapons. But it’s still a great game overall I’d say. I’d love to see more people from my friends list post times in Time Trial mode.

I think it’s called “Desperados 2: Cooper’s Revenge” in Europe.
“Helldorado” is the US title as far as I can remember.
Have it at home but never played it (backlog).

From what I’ve read this might be Desperados 3, renamed Helldorado becaue atari owns the desperados name.

I believe Desperados 2 was already released in the states a couple years ago.

We are both kinda right:

Helldorado is a tactical 3D strategy game set in the Wild West. It was originally designed as an expansion for Desperados 2: Cooper’s Revenge but eventually became a stand-alone game.

ah, good find intruder. this is intriguing for $15.

The key to a successful strategy is to stay undetected. The player needs to avoid being spotted by enemies and should not raise an alarm. By combining stealth and hit-and-run tactics which may be planned in advance using so-called Quick Actions, the player can develop a strategy to win the objectives on each map. Each character has different abilities, strengths and weaknesses. There are 15 new skills based on teamwork which allow the characters to combine their skills.

So-called Quick Actions? Like hitting the keys real fast?

GoG’s having a Spring promo sale.

Giants + Sacrifice for xxxx
ToCA 3 + Screamer for $11.98
Arx Fatalis + Stonekeep for $8.98
Painkiller Black + Redneck Rampage for $11.98
Second sight + Messiah for $11.98
Perimeter + Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising for xxxx
Freespace and its expansion + Freespace 2 for xxxx

Edit: Whoops, the x’d out prices were off since they were affected by my already owning part of the bundle.

Oh, that’s interesting. I was wondering about the Freespace package, but if they let you pick up the other half for a discount then I’m pretty tempted here.

It’s funny that for $4.94 I couldn’t be bothered buying the Freespace bundle because I already have FS2 from them, but now I’m tempted to get FS+expansion for the exact same price. There’s probably a lesson in psychology here about sales on digital distribution sites!

Tempted to pick up Sacrifice + Giants and Second Sight + Messiah.

How does the PC version control with the wired 360 controller? If it works fine, I’m sold.

Why do people ask this question? I don’t have a 360 controller for the PC, but isn’t the whole reason to use it that it makes PC games play just like their 360 counterparts?

it works great. keyboard controls are good too, so don’t totally discount them.

In my experience, platforming games and beat-em ups work better when you have the finer analog directional control of a thumbstick, vs. up-down-left-right of a keyboard.

Yes, and that can be a great thing sometimes. Would you really want to play Psychonauts with mouse and keyboard, for example? Not really, so if you get it for the PC, knowing that it plays well with the 360 controller is pretty key.

Unfortunately, I don’t know if Mirror’s Edge controls the same as the 360 version or not on the PC with the 360 controller, but I would guess it would. And yes, that’s a game where I can’t imagine the mouse+keyboard controls being as intuitive as they are on 360 and PS3 pads.

As for why you’d want the PC version: graphics. The PS3 version looks the worst since it doesn’t have anti-aliasing, and the demo looked terrible compared to the 360 version because of that. But the PC version looks quite a bit better. Pendact has some great screenshots of the PC version on his blog. It looks great on the 360 though, and you do get achievements, which you don’t get on the PC. But I can’t deny from the screenshots that it looks better on the PC. Higher res textures, higher res graphics in general if you’ve got the hardware.

Ok, fine. But that’s not my question. If the controller is supported, these are givens. So why even ask how it controls with the 360 controller?

I could understand asking if the game wasn’t released on consoles or even only on PS3 or something like that, but when it’s available on all platforms I’d just assume that the PC version is exactly like the 360 version except it might look a little nicer depending on the PC you own.

Fortunately (or not?), it would appear to be a moot point, as Amazon just booted my selection directly into my saved items because Mirror’s Edge is “no longer available from the selected seller.” I guess this’ll learn me to try and find a DVD/Game storage solution and magazine rack end table when there’s games to buy.
