I didn’t notice this posted: D2D has a Spring Break sale which ends today. Universe at War, Stronghold Legends, Hulk, Tank Universal, 1701 AD Gold, and The Maw are all half-price.

Also, a reminder that both D2D and Gamersgate have the complete Company of Heroes for $40. D2D’s sale ends today; not sure about GG’s. GG also still has Prey for $5 and Helldorado for $15.

I picked up the 3rd one, Flatout ultimate Carnage. Having a blast with it. Well work the $10 on sale. It also has GFW Live which I like when it works correctly and so far has in Flatout.

As per usual Dell has the cheapest way to buy consoles. In this case, the 360 Arcade is $157 after an auto-discount after you put into your cart. Saw that on Slickdeals.

Probably not much anymore as the match-3 craze was quite a while ago now. The casual market appears to be surprisingly open to massive amounts of cloning within certain periods of gaming fads, though, as long as you’ve got an interesting setting or twist on the basic mechanic.

See: Match-3, PuzzLoop/Zuma, serving games (Diner Dash, etc), Hidden-Object findinggames, etc. Each of those had a very healthy ecosystems of games, most of which were clones of one big hit (which was often itself a clone of some older game that was less well known, eg. Zuma->PuzzLoop).

Good news for SMAC fans. ‘Alpa centauri complete’ is being sold on the budget label ‘sold out’ for £4.99 in stores and on amazon.

It includes the main game and the expansion Alien crossfire. As the standalone price for that expansion has been kinda crazy for the last few years this is a great deal. It is also a windows xp/vista friendly version.

Sadly, they won’t ship to the US.

I love the convenience factor of Steam but there is much about the implementation that I hate. Some of it I hate a lot.

Example: Just tried to buy World of Goo. For some reason the order won’t go through, I keep getting an error:

“There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.”

Ok, that sucks… I guess I’ll contact support. So I go to their support page and it tells me to get Steam support I need to create a Steam Support Account… in addition to the Steam account I already have. Holy fuck, that’s dumb! Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Just to note I’ve been getting the same issue for weeks - then I had a brainwave! Braid is on Greenhouse too! Fuck Steam!!
