So, Steve, Master of the Preorder - does Overnight Shipping mean I get it release day?
Because that’s pretty slick, if so.

It’s really pathetic. I was getting more like 250 kb/s, but the server would choke entirely about once an hour, forcing me to manually restart the download. I mean, the WiC thing is a great deal, but I’d almost pay the extra money to not have to deal with this bullshit.

ease up, man. not only are tons of people downloading the WiC deal, but i’m sure people getting the other games that were on sale this week are contributing to the slow servers. the new website launch didn’t help either. slow downloads suck, yeah, but its certainly understandable.
Yeah, Overnight Shipping with EB/GS is release date shipping. So no worries there.
Great game, my favorite galactic 4X game ever. Think TW in space, TB strat turns, RT tactical combat turns. Best mix of research/ship design ever. Light on the economy and diplomacy, not a lot of micro-management. Very distinct races, play very differently. Lots of fun. Buy it now!
Or if you prefer another distribution node, Impulse has it on sale for $20.
Beautiful. Thank you, sir. I’m gonna’ get my ass to Mars.

It’s understandable, but really annoying, especially when my only other experience with them (King’s Bounty) was also really annoying. That was the time when they ran out of CD keys at the beginning of their weekend sale and most of us had to wait several days to actually be able to play the game.
Honestly, I don’t mind the slow download so much, it’s the need to manually restart the damn thing ten times. I set it to download overnight, thinking maybe it would be done by morning. I checked it this morning, and of course the download had choked about an hour in. So maybe I’ll have it by tonight, or maybe I won’t. Maybe I can look forward to another evening of babysitting the GG downloader.
I’m inclined to cut them some slack, and I know Steam and Impulse have both had their growing pains, but so far it’s been two bad experiences and no good experiences with GG, hence the impotent nerd rage.
I thought they had gotten rid of the GG downloader? Maybe they should have kept it. Isn’t one of the advantages of something like that that you don’t have to start a download over from scratch? GoG still has a downloader and I used it recently when I bought TOCA 3.
I jumped on the Men of War deal earlier this week but haven’t downloaded it yet.

They got rid of the client, but in order to download a game you still have to download a small executable which prompts you for username/password and manages the download.
Yeah, the problem with their downloader app is that it doesn’t automatically resume as soon as the connection is good again; you have to hit an ‘Unpause’ button, which doesn’t help when the transfer breaks at 2am or while you’re at work.

[Am I the only one who thinks “Samantha Swift & the Golden Touch” sounds like a porn title?]
As is Flock! which had looked interesting to me previously. Anyone know if it’s a decent game or not?
