Not bad. With the ECA discount, it puts it down around $117. The problem once again (as with the Gamestop deal) is what to do with an extra copy of Rock Band 2? Plus there’s this niggling voice in the back of my head saying “wait for the Beatles drums and guitars instead, they’ll have improved them even more and you can skip a generation of fake plastic instruments”.
Mirror’s Edge (PC) for $11 shipped from BeachAudio (thru Buy.com).
“wait for the Beatles drums and guitars instead, they’ll have improved them even more and you can skip a generation of fake plastic instruments”.
That’s kind of unfair. They’re definitely made of real plastic.
You’re right. I wasn’t giving them their due.
And the ECA codes aren’t working for some reason. Why is this such a pain all the time?
Dunno if it’s been mentioned yet, but I saw the Utlimate Sword of the Stars (Complete + Argos) on Steam for 15.99 last night. I went ahead and got it but I assume that, unlike Sins of…, that I won’t be able to play it multi at home w/ my kid. since it requires steam login. Hmmm, maybe I should’ve bought it on Impulse instead.

I haven’t tried this with Sword of the Stars specifically, but it works for most Steam games so it’s worth a shot.
Install Steam on your kid’s computer and log in on your account while your main PC doesn’t have Steam running, download SotS (Alternatively you can copy it over from your PC and have Steam find it and activate it), then click file and go offline. Sign on to Steam on your PC and click go offline. Then both if you are running the same Steam account in offline mode so Steam won’t be phoning home and you can both play the game, unless Sword of the Stars specifically has a bugaboo against the same cd key playing on LAN. Probably will work though.
At 15.99 I could buy it for my son, but he won’t play that often anyway. I’m trying to draw him into strategy games. We’ve played Sins a couple times, I’m curious to see how he’d like Sword.

Some decent Impulse Buys this weekend on the front page:
http://www.impulsedriven.com/
Yeah, time to grab Braid and PQ: Galactrix. My wife took over my original PQ game so maybe I can show her up with some hex matching.
World of Goo also there with another of its $10 sales, definitely worth buying if anyone hasn’t played it.
New GoGamer sale: lotta PC bargains, including Mirror’s Edge, Mercenaries 2, and Prince of Persia for $6 each. [Crap, and I just bought ME for $11 - haven’t even gotten it yet. :-(]
Also, the following PSN games are on sale until July 23:
3 on 3 NHL Arcade $4.99
Brain Challenge $4.99
Crash Commando $4.99
Flock $7.49
PixelJunk Eden $4.99
Savage Moon $4.99
Wipeout HD $14.99
I got an email from PSN saying a bunch of their games are on sale, including Pixeljunk Eden and Savage Moon, which I’m planning on picking up.
Take a look!
For the retro dungeon-crawler: The Dark Spire for $10 at Gamestop.
The Penumbra Collection for five dollars this weekend.

Personally I’d say Eden is worth it and so is Wipeout if you like racing games.
I stumbled upon this deal just this morning while browsing at my local Gamestop. Quite surprised – I got a fresh, sealed copy with the soundtrack CD for ten bucks. Even the clerk did a double take when he rang it up; he said it had still be $30 just a few weeks ago.
I would highly recommend Eden. But try the demo first. It’s not for everyone. But give the demo some time. I didn’t like the game at first, but it grew on me. It’s an excellent game.
I noticed this sale last night and bought Savage Moon based on Tom’s comments on it on Fidgit a while back. So far it’s good, but I’m afraid that it will become too hard at some point, like most games in this genre do except for Defense Grid, which is balanced so perfectly.

Last night I downloaded the demo for Savage Moon and almost immediately bought the full game. It seems to be a really fun tower defense game.
Crash Commando is alright, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t played XBLA’s much superior Rocket Riot recently. The demo is worth a shot.
