DoW 2 and DoW 1 are actually somewhat more different despite their inherited similarities and themes. DoW 2 is a much tighter, crisper game with far, far fewer units, with squads that must retreat to base to reinforce (like Company of Heroes). DoW 1 is a much messier, larger, bombastic game with better audio (the unit responses in DoW 1 + Expansions have become almost the default representation of Warhammer 40k). Not to mention virtually all of the Warhammer races at this point. DoW 2 has an excellent Single player campaign - DoW 1’s only scripted campaign worth anything is it’s first one, and then it goes to an increasingly colorless “Dynamic” campaign for it’s last two expansions, the design flaws of the last being most apparent. DoW 1’s skirmish AI is better than DoW 2’s. DoW 2’s AI can only put up a show of resistance when on the hardest AI setting which gives it basically 2x the resources a player receives.

This week’s XBLA deal is R-type dimensions down to $10 from $15 in real money. Did anyone here try the game? Is it worth checking out?

The bargains these days are crazy! I don’t recall bargains like these being common 5 years ago. Not that I’m complaining…

If you like R-Type, it is fantasic. you can even jump from classic to fancy graphics on the fly.

I enjoyed the demo, but didn’t pick it up because of the high price at release. Time to take another look.

Direct2Drive has some good deals this week.

Fallout 3 is $24.95
Prototype $39.95
Call of Juarez Bound in Blood $34.95

Can Quake Wars be played as a single-player game with bots?

Sacred 2 Collector’s Edition for PC on Amazon is $19.99, which is the same price as the normal version.

It can, in theory. I’d try the demo first Robert. That’s what I did, and I didn’t find to be very good as a game I was playing with bots.

Will that Steam activate?

No it won’t.

I ordered it anyway. :P

TrackMania United Forever is $19.99 on Steam until August 10.

Fun game, especially if you have a few friends with the game to compare times with.

My local Target got rid of the glass cases for the mostly-full-price games and put all of them out on the shelves in giant individual plastic cases. This takes up a lot of space, and so they apparently took the bargain games that used to be on the shelves and crammed them all into the single clearance endcap.

The result? Well over a hundred games, at around 40% off. There were far too many packed far too tightly for me to conduct an accurate survey of what they had. I picked up Bangai-O Spirits for $10 (down from $15) and I’m going to go back and tear those shelves apart.

Pre-order Batman: Arkham Asylum from Amazon for $48 on X360 & PS3 or $40 on PC using coupon code 5OFFARKM. Dunno if this can be combined with the ECA 10% discount.

It worked for me on the PC version, for $35.50 I thought why not.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up! I missed the last sale they had for this!
