Amazon is offering a $10 video game credit with Assassin’s Creed 2, just like they are for Modern Warfare 2, and others that might have been mentioned here before. I’m never sure whether to lock in such offers so early. What if Microcenter offers a great deal suddenly on the day of release? Hmmm. On the other hand, I could order from Amazon now, effectively making it $41 for the game, including the ECA discount, tax (none) and shipping (none). Not sure if I’ll find a better bargain than that even around Black Friday.

Edit: Looks like they took away the $10 credit pre-order incentive for Modern Warfare 2, and raised it’s price from $57 to $60. I guess now I’m glad I was locked in earlier. Hmmm. Incentive to do the same with Assassin’s Creed 2 rising…

Done. Thanks for the heads up Rock8.

http://www.bplay.com has a 30% off sale happening, just use coupon code: FFDY37WU

Happiness! Fry’s has Dirt 2 for the Xbox 360 for $49.99. Note that they don’t promise to have it until tomorrow at noon; how this will affect possible price matching by Best Buy is unknown but will be known later when I go to Best Buy :)

I am at the point where I don’t understand why anyone ever buys any game from another retailer at launch. Amazon has below MSRP on most games, release date shipping on many of them, no tax, fast shipping, frequent bonuses, game cash, MP3 download deals, the ECA membership takes 10% off the top, and if you are a Prime member it’s even easier.

I have purchased two copies of Batman for about $45 bucks each, HALO ODST for about $40 (counting game cash deals), NHL10 for 42.99, etc.

I’ve been mostly buying stuff from Gamefly. 10% off game purchases. Free Shipping. $5 coupons. Right now I can keep The Beatles: Rock Band for $41.50.

Because I can walk into my local Bestbuy and have it Day 1 with $0 shipping.

Best Buy charges tax. Tax is more than shipping and a lot more than Prime.

Depends on where you live.

I miss Portland.

Also, and maybe this isn’t true everywhere, Best Buy isn’t conveniently located on my front porch.

So the ECA discount, you have to be a paying member? That kinda sucks… I don’t really want to add on 15 dollars to the purchase of Assassins Creed 2 from Amazon. Otherwise I’d be all over that deal, Rock8.

Not a bargain, but I figure there are others here who can relate to this: A Penny Saved Is a Dollar Spent

One of the obvious places to cut costs was gaming, and we decided that I should lay off buying new games and focus on discounts and clearance sales instead.

The plan backfired. I enjoyed economizing so much that my gaming budget more than doubled. In the same way that people often translate “sugar free” into “eat all you want,” bargain videogames gave me all the justification I needed to abandon restraint.

Heh, yeah, as a regular Amazon customer, the ECA membership is a no-brainer to me. I’ve saved way more than my $15 membership feel already, and it hasn’t even been six months yet. I saved $25 just on the Beatles bundle, and smaller amounts on many other games. But if you don’t order very often from Amazon, I could see why the ECA membership can be a tough decision. Especially since you’ll inevitably ask yourself: Am I now buying more games from Amazon because of the ECA membership? And if so, in the long run did it really save me money?

That’s pretty much the boat I’m in these days, made worse by the fact that I got a new PC in July. The seemingly constant deals on Steam and other download services have certainly been great for me as a consumer, but a little hard on the wallet.

Thanks for the link, I am exactly like this guy, great article !

Stupid question but I have a few more minutes on my break to kill, what is the ECA thing I keep hearing about regarding Amazon?

Good Old Games - a leading destination for download-to-own DRM-free classic PC games, is offering members 20% off of new game purchases.

i did not know that

That’s not too shabby. Even though for me the cost will be 20 bucks, not 15.
