God bless that SR2 engine, it feels like it could break apart at any time.

Well, when he describes driving as unplayable, I take that at his word because I had the same exact problem until I OC’d. It literally was nearly impossible to drive without crashing because of the stutters, but that mostly went away. I’m sorry to hear he still has that problem. SR2’s performance is just weird and varies wildly on the PC. It’s not like I have an awesome system (2 gig, 1950xt, 3ghz).
I had no issues worth remembering with SR2 on the 360. Fantastic game.

SR2 on 360 = Awesome fun game.
SR2 on PC = Super frustrating choppy crap port.
It’s definitely a crappy port, but since you guys see fit to keep harping on how bad it was for you, I’m going to once again say it works fine for me. I’m finding it easily worth the $5 (though I’ve got so many damn games to play right now I haven’t been able to spend more than a few hours with it).
Man, I’m so glad I saved that $5.

SR2 PC performance seems indeed vary wildly from PC to PC.
I have a aging system with a low-range dual core and an 8800GT and when I first installed it the game ran horribly.
After a patch was released a while later the updated version of the game ran fine. I had to knock the graphics settings down a tad to achieve borderline stutter-free driving, but that was all, the game ran fine.

I just picked up a RB 2 bundle (360) from Gamestop yesterday for $99.

Thanks for the tip, looking on Amazon it looks like the Guitar Hero World Tour set is $99 as well. I remember that the GH guitar was better then RB’s guitar. What is the consensus over the bundles as the better one for the instruments?
I believe people prefer the RB2 drums over the GHWT drums.
They’re totally different layouts, and people seems to feel that the RB2 drumset (especially with cymbal attachments) offers a more authentic mapping of actual drumming behavior than the GHWT set. Furthermore, if you do own both, I believe people find the RB2 drums work better in World Tour than vice versa.
While expert-y players uniformly prefer the Guitar Hero guitars (the clickiness makes it feel more responsive and thus better for high level play), if you’re just getting into it, there isn’t a huge difference, and there are reasons to recommend the RB2 guitar. I’d recommend the RB2 bundle myself (I just bought one last week in fact).

Also, SR2 on 360 isn’t up to the standard of GTAIV, visually, but it’s still pretty good looking, I thought. Significantly better than Saints Row 1.
Telefrog is so wrong.
SR2 on PC is fine. It’s not the best port, but it’s improved a lot, and I’ve had a fucking ball playing it on PC.

My experiences can beat up your experiences so my experiences are right.
TheHut.com is doing one of its regular 24 hour sales and I spotted Section 8 for £17.73. The game has not been out for a week in the UK and the price is already being chopped in half… not a good sign!
I couldn’t find any info on whether the PAL version works on NTSC consoles, so overseas buyers beware.

What do you need for me to convince you that it plays like utter crap on my PC? FRAPs vids? Links to various official forum threads with people having the same issues? How about a link to Volition’s own Sean Kennedy admitting that they weren’t happy with the port?
SK: Not being directly involved with Saints Row 2, I don’t know everything that happened with that. I do know that in the end, we weren’t happy with how the PC version came out…
Secret of Monkey Island for $5 on Steam this weekend.
Also just released: the Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection for $20 which includes everything from Dark Forces to Jedi Academy; and the Lucasarts Adventure Pack for $10 which contains Loom, The Dig, and both Indy adventures.

Hah this is interesting.I wonder why won’t they whip ass whoever did that port and make them fix it.Lot of gamers would be really happy and maybe wouldn’t decide not to buy their next games like Guerilla.See:me.

It seems to depend entirely on your computer. On my old P4 3.0GHz, it ran fine (except that steering cars was difficult). On my newer dual core AMD box, it stutters like a mofo. Running it in XP compatibility mode helps a little bit, but it’s pretty much unplayable – despite the fact that each core of my new system beats the old box in most benchmarks. sigh
Not sure if these were already mentioned: Steam is having another free UT3 weekend. They also have the Unreal Deal Pack for $16, which looks like it’s everything Unreal except UT2003. You can also buy UT3 for $8 and the original UT:GotY for a mere $2.
