I easily got my $13 worth for the CE. The whole FPS angle didn’t do anything for me because I failed to see how it was different than other MMO titles, but it was still entertaining.

When I played it earlier this year, I found Tabula Rasa a mixed bag: at its best it was like “PlanetSide the MMORPG;” at its worst it was just as grindy as any MMORPG, but with far fewer character customization options and environments to help mix things up a bit. If they had focused on the base-assault mechanics and done away with the boring old grind-y hunts, I think they might have had something special. As it was, though, it was kinda uneven.

I might try it again at the one-year mark (if it’s still around by then), see if they patched it into better shape.

I haven’t played TR recently, but from what I recall from earlier on the main complaint was a lack of high-level content. By the time you got your full class specialization, there wasn’t really anything new or interesting to do with it.

I’m not sure how much they’ve worked on that aspect since, but at that price it might still be worth it just to check it out up to that point.

Gotta say, not real impressed with GamersGate at this point - the downloader errors out on me before even finishing launching, and when I e-mailed tech support, a day later (today) I got my e-mail provider notifying me that they were having trouble sending to the support address.

Probably already mentioned, but Sacred Gold is $9 on Steam. Not the best ARPG in the world, but not a steaming pile of codswallop, either.

Any RPG that includes functionality for low level enemies expiring on merely entering your visual range is okay in my book.

You can preorder Flatout:UC on Steam now for $20 and get the original Flatout for free. I think the driving model in the original is different enough that UC doesn’t entirely obsolete it.

Edit: Europeans get hosed again though; it’s like $50 over there.

GODDAMN!

I have Flatout 2 and since UC is mainly some minor update I would have spend $20 US on it but definately not $50 US.
I will wait for this hitting the bargain bin in the future.

So apparently Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts will be released at a bargain price: $40. And if you pre-order at Amazon (and a few other retailers), you get an early code for Banjo-Kazooie XBLA. Sounds like a great bargain to me. It’s been a long time since I played Banjo on the N64. It sounds like a great fit for XBLA, and to get it for free sounds like a good deal, since I was planning on getting Nuts & Bolts anyway, especially after reading the new preview for it on Eurogamer.

A metric ass-ton of PC games are seriously discounted at GoGamer.com right now. For example, Splinter Cell and Splinter Cell:Pandora are $6 each, Total Overdose is $4, Castles and Catapults is $2, Dead to Rights is $3, etc.

Whoops, wrong login. Damn funny that it worked, though.

I’ve played Total Overdose on the Xbox, and liked it, FWIW.

Why even log in as voltaic? Are you on some ignore lists?

Heads up on Dead to Rights PC version: it uses Starforce, and it’s got one of the heaviest cases of consoleitis I have ever seen.

No, that’s the “whoops” part. My name is still voltaic (or a derivative) on most other websites I use.

Does it hold up better than say Diablo 2? How does it rate next to a Titan Quest? Color me interested.

It’s cheap enough to try and find out for yourself, but I like Titan Quest a lot better. Of course, it’s been years since I tried Sacred, but I stopped playing it after a few hours, despite some interesting ideas that it has. It’s really hit or miss though. I don’t seem to find many people who say it was just an average game. People seem to really like it or really think it stinks. Probably depends no how well they like the (apparent) lack of any real story and the strange way that you get skills/spells.

I enjoyed the original Banjo-Kazooie as well, has there been a date set for it to appear on XBLA? I want to play the sequel as I didn’t play it when it was released.

If you were thinking about springing for a new 360, you may want to hold off until the week of Sept. 7. Sunday sales circular scans are popping up on the net with new price points: Elite $400, Arcade $200

The Elites were $300 and $350 on Dell.com just a week or two ago and came with two games and two faceplates.

AudioSurf and Beyond Good and Evil are both going for 5 bucks on Steam this weekend. That’s like the best deal of the year so far!
