I heard Republic Commando was pretty good, right?

I was gonna ask the same thing. I heard Battlefront 2 and Republic Conmando were good. Are they worth picking up?

People kept saying Republic Commando was good and I believed them, so I finally picked it up for the Xbox last year. But I felt it had absolutely horrible play mechanics. Just the basic moving and shooting wasn’t very satisfying, at least on the 360 controller. Perhaps it plays better with the mouse, but I’m not going to take the same risk a second time. Especially not for a game where the story felt so generic and uninspired. If you’ve got something else in your backlog that needs your attention, I’ll bet it’s better than this game, so I’d say play that instead.

I ordered Republic Commando. I figured for $5.90, what the hell.

I played it about 5-6 hours on the original Xbox. It was heavily into squad management, linear progression, scripted events, and flying alien killing. Not bad, not great.

Let your level of Star Wars fandom be the element that tips it one way or another.

How about Battlefront 2? ;)

Has anyone heard if the Alone in the Dark improvements they are doing for the console version are coming to PC? If so that’s a pretty good deal. If not I’ll pass.

Battlefront 2 was a huge disappointment to me. They tweaked away everything I liked about the original, which I sank months of online time into.

The kids like it on Xbox, though, so what do I know?

I enjoyed it: think “lite tactical shooter” a la R6 Vegas or BiA, but with Stormtrooper commandos. I didn’t find it terribly challenging - it was maybe a little too lightweight - but it was good fun. MILD SPOILER Though it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I doubt a sequel will be made anytime soon, so you’re basically left dangling at the end.

Yes (some of them, anyway).

If so that’s a pretty good deal.

Not really - AitD’s problems go way beyond interface annoyances, IMHO. And it practically has “bargain bin fodder” stamped on the cover.

I would consider Republic Commando one of the best squad shooters ever. Effective melee weapons (or melee use), a decent challenge level but still never losing the feel of being a badass elite trooper, and a competent squad.

The best thing about RC is it’s not hypocritical. In other squad games, if you go down, that’s it, even though if teammates go down they can be revived (R6 is extra guilty here). In RC, you can be revived just the same, either after your squad finishes its goals, or ASAP if ordered. They’ll do things on their own and are easily ordered to certain activities in an area, and in general they don’t fuck it up.

Don’t drag Rainbow6’s formerly good name through the dirt because of recent design decisions. I appreciated that if my pointman got killed in the originals, it just zoomed me to another teammate. Neither hypocritical nor absurdly unrealistic! :)

Alone in the Dark has a lot of great bits to it, but I really don’t see any reason to own it if you have a 360. You can just rent it - it’s not long, and it’s not especially replayable.

Amazon’s Deal of the Day is Political Machine 08 for $12.99. Anyone that couldn’t bear to spend $19.99 on it should pick it up now if interested.

Walked out of GameStop the other day with some nice, pre-owned copies of Prey and The Darkness for a grand total of $14 or so, after tax. I’ve played the former on the PC, but never finished it, and haven’t ever tried the latter. The price is certainly right.

Portal is 10 bucks on Steam this weekend. Is there anyone that doesn’t have this game yet? If so, you’re retarded, but you have a chance at (inexpensive) redemption on this fine weekend!

It’s possible to have rented it to experience the greatness. So, :P

Oh, wait the emoticon proves your point.

But does it feature Sarah Palin?

Dude, Political Machine is a game about politics, not beauty contests.

I actually was joking around. Here’s a belated emoticon: :)

It’s a little known fact
