It took years, but the price of Dead Rising has finally come down. Right after I finally succumbed and stopped waiting for a better price and finally bought the game for $30. Sigh.

Anyway, the game is only $20 at Amazon last I checked, and next week, starting this Sunday, it’s $15 at Circuit City, along with Saint’s Row and GRAW 2 which are also $15 next week.

EBGames.com’s deal of the day is free overnight shipping on Far Cry 2. Enter the coupon code “FARCRY2” at checkout.

Not bad - I’m pretty keen on the title at the moment. Has anyone decided on the PC version over consoles?

Achievements are about the only reason I’d play it on my 360, barring some sort of gaping content disparity that I can’t currently anticipate. And I tend to suspect I’d not be good enough at it to get many achievements.

I’d love to buy it on the PC over consoles. It just seems that sort of game where I’d prefer the intimacy of the monitor/computer rather than the laid-back couch experience.

However, I have no idea if my PC will be able to handle it, and by handle it, I mean “make it look gorgeous, not like Crysis on medium detail, with rocks popping into existence just as I’m about to bump into them”. Hopefully there will be a demo. If there’s no demo, then I’ll probably get it on the 360, where I get all the cross-platform titles. Unless all the reviews say its much better on the PS3 for some reason.

Yeah, I picked up DR and Saints Row (no apostrophe!) for $17 each last time CC had one of these sales. DR is one of my favorite 360 games yet.

The Diablo 3 orchestral overture is the itunes free download of the week this week.

not bargains, but itunes also added the rest of the blizzard soundtrack collection from starcraft on up to wow. good listening if you don’t already have em’

X-Com collection is now on steam for $14.

Thanks for that! At last I can play them again without finding my old DOS disks or trying to get them to play well with Windows.

The Amazon.com Deal of the Day is Battlefield: Bad Company for $39.99.

Steam’s weekend deal is the id Software super pack for $35. That is to say, Commander Keen, all the Dooms and addons, Wolfenstein 3D and addon, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake I-III with addons, Heretic, Hexen and addon, and Hexen II (which doesn’t seem to include Portal of Praevus. Maybe they don’t have rights to it.)

Edit: Actually…it’s all of id’s games on Steam half off, (except Quake Wars), you just really ought to buy the super pack. That is an amazing deal.

I’m almost tempted to get Wolf3D for $2.50 just so I can kill Hitler. I did Spear of Destiny recently and it was still playable. (I think I may have used a modern remake engine or something.)

Argh! I already own all the id games. Can you use mods like ZDoom for the Steam variants?

Well, typically the data files in a Steam game are the same. So my guess is that you could just yank the WAD files and use them with ZDoom et al, which aren’t mods so much as rewritten versions of the engine.

BTW folks, Age of Conan is also on sale on Steam for 10% off normal price. So you can get it for $44.99. Offer ends on 9/11.

Yep, the WAD files in the Steam version are still obtainable if you want to use engine-upgrading software on them.

Yep. Note, I haven’t tried this myself yet, but there’s a thread here detailing it:

$35’s a total bargain for those game, I won’t be able to resist.
