It’s bullshit that they are having some issues in the beta? What is bullshit about that? Isn’t that the best time for the issues?

Well chill the blizz defense it is beta but that haven’t really been forthcoming with information about what is going on what is causing problems and even an estimate on down times.
Granted we are getting to play for free - but they are getting stress tests and balancing tests for free - I think the community would chill a bit more (except for the assholes) if they weren’t wasting time logging in to check if the server was up every hour or what not.

It was pretty stable yesterday, managed to clock in a couple of games without a hitch.
With the new reset I did switch to zerg, grass is greener and all that. I can’t believe how cheap everything is compared to protoss, and once I have my hatcheries set up the units just keep flowing.
I am having some problems with the control setup (only played 4-5 games total), however. Protoss was really easy to deal with:
-ctrl-4 the nexuses
-ctrl-5 the scouting drone/observer
-ctrl-3 the robotics/stargates
-ctrl-1 and ctrl-2 for the melee/ranged or ground/air, depending, and W to warp in
There’s a lot more stuff going on with zerg (that is cool though, it’s what allows it such incredible versatility), so I’m a little lost on how to group assign everything. My main problem is the hatcheries/queens as I’d want to keep constantly injecting with minimum attention devoted to it. Is there any easy way to do that without having to go back and micro-manage three hatcheries in the middle of a battle?

Depending on your unit comp as zerg you hardly need to watch the battles.
Of course YMMV but for me.
5- Primary Hatch
6- Natural Hatch
7- 3rd Hatch
I generally situate my queen in the same location at each hatch generally opposite the mineral line. I tried hotkeying queens but then found I was not using the larvae that was there (not to mention running out of control groups). This way in the midst of a battle its as simple as 5-s-d (or t or h or c) and to larvae I just double tap the hatchery snag the queen and v it up can do all 3 larvae injections in about 5 seconds since you don’t have to wait for the animation before you move on.
There are some interface things I’d like to see blizz take care of, it would be nice to have a control group of queens and have the closest one vomit and for toss’s chrono boost to take energy in a rr fashion from nexuses (nexi?)
This used to be in the Beta but it was removed. You could inject larva by hitting a queen group hot-keyed and the hitting the hatch unit portrait and the AI would automatically do it with the Queen closest to the hatch… For some reason you can’t do that anymore (You also can’t chrono boost by clicking on the portraits either, very annoying).
I play Protoss, but for Zerg I do 4 for my hatcheries, and 5 for my queens. Then I click around the minimap to insert larva.
I was watching Day9’s review of IdrA vs NonY in the HDH tournament, and IdrA uses 4 for all his hatcheries, but then binds his queens to separate hotkeys (5, 6, 7).
I don’t really like using hotkeys past 5 or 6, but that’s probably the optimal method.

This sounds good. It makes sense to have all the hatcheries grouped together to mass produce units very easily, then just double tap the queen key, V to inject, move to the next queen, V to inject then finally double tap to your unit group to get back to the action. Yeah, this probably makes most sense. Thanks for all the help guys!

Why aren’t you guys using the grid layout for hotkeys… I would recommend changing early and get in the habit of the grid. It makes learning a new race 10x easier and playing in general 20x easier (numbers made up).

How would grid help out with control groups, especially having more than 5 of them?
It doesn’t, but you should do it anyway because it’s a better hotkey layout.
I’m a big fan of grid hotkeys for the reasons mentioned so far, my only gripe is that attack gets mapped to ‘t’, which is means needing to reach with the index finger. Why they didn’t make it’s grid location closer to that hand’s rest position puzzles me, especially when less frequently used actions like hold position and patrol are closer.

Just had a custom game marathon with two of my buddies. The new Bnet is awesome! Can’t wait for more maps to come!
Just watched the HDH round of 8 games between TheLittleOne and CauthonLuck. TLO really impressed me with his response to the early pressure from CauthonLuck’s tanks in game 1 and hellion + marauder push in game 2. The first game especially looked like a losing battle until he started to get the upper hand through econ harass with the banshees.
The one complaint I’ve heard about grid keys is that it doesn’t leave much room for error. For example, if you hit the button for Spawn Larva on your hatch one time too many, you might produce something you didn’t want to. On the regular hotkeys, you can mash S all you want without worrying about making a mistake.
I finally got through my placement matches again since the reset, and I’m in silver league again. I didn’t win a single match; in fact, I didn’t even compete in any of them. How the hell does this placement work?!
The most embarrassing loss was to a guy who snuck a probe into my base and made tons of pylons and photon canons. I couldn’t deal with it. I’d make 2 marines by the time he’d made another canon. He’d leapfrog them out so I couldn’t kill the new ones without taking fire from the old ones.
I finally suicide rushed his probe making the canons trying to kill it and lost my whole army, and then 5 zealots showed up at my door and it was gg.
The matchmaking is really fucking bad. I need to be playing copper league players, I am not this good. I hate that it places me in silver, it’s too frustrating to play. :(
This isn’t embarrassing. The only way you can counter this is by noticing it on time. This is why against Protoss I always run a harvester around the edges to see if they snuck a probe in. Just need to time the run right to avoid taking a hit on your mineral collection.
That said, I would really REALLY like to have a clock during my games. Would be hugely helpful to see when you should do what.
You are playing Copper players, Silver is now the lowest league in Bnet.

Pretty sure bronze is the “lowest” now
