I’d be using about 8-10 medivacs when maxed out on food, you really don’t need more then that. Remember, they aren’t for keeping you guys alive in the fight they are for healing up the survivors after so that they can remain in the fight.

Really? Maybe in the late game, but early on, one or two Medivacs can make a huge difference in a fight.

Well having now been in every league in the beta I can now describe the experience:

Copper: Very easy.
Bronze: No problem.
Silver: Starting to get a challenge.
Gold: Pretty tough, win 50/50.
Platinum: “You’ve got a pretty mouth.”

Oh yea, in small engagements, like 20 food armies but I would presume that the way his question was asked that he was talking about late game.

Well, if we’re talking late game, I’d say that if you’re losing with an MMM ball, the answer isn’t to get a bigger ball. It’s to get a better army composition.

II would subscribe to this notion aswell, however he asked after the relevance of Medivacs and I was simply filling him in as to their late game roll. 10 or so Medivacs is more then enough for a huge MMM ball (also make sure you keep them well in the back).

Their purpose is for after battle recovery so that your surviving troops can actually fight again, not heal them mid battle.

If you guys ever find yourselves with 5+ people online, you should check out Nuclear Defense. It’s a custom game/mod/thing, and it’s awesome. Just go to Create or Join Game, and type “nuclear” in the search field.

It’s a tower-defense game where instead of planting towers, each person plays a Ghost with infinite nukes. You have to anticipate the speed of the mobs to drop the nuke just right. After each round, you get minerals to spend on upgrades – you can buy three different special nukes (that use up Ghost energy), as well as damage and speed upgrades.

It’s best played with 4 - 6 people, because the difficulty isn’t really tuned to fewer than that. You’ll find it hard to get very far with fewer than 5 or 6.

It’s definitely the most fun we’ve had with any custom game so far. Almost every round past the first few has a different dynamic (e.g., blinking Stalkers, invisible DTs, Zealots that speed up the longer they stay alive). The game also hands out extra chances after every boss fight, so if you screw up once or twice, it’s not game over.

I’m finally getting some wins with Protoss. I switched away from my beloved terrans and I’m having some success. I struggle vs Terran with protoss, however, but Zerg and Protoss are better matchups for me.

Here’s a replay of a game I just this minute wrapped up, if anyone is bored and looking to critique. I know already I tend to lose track of my economy when I’m doing my push, I need to multitask better.

Is the beta over? I just get a scene with the orbiting ship.

I’m logged in right now, it was extended to June 7th.

Huh. I haven’t played in a week or so, but the UI never loads now after receiving the latest patch – just the ship orbit scene. Weird.

You should report the bug like a good beta tester! :)

So the beta now allows only RealIDs (Battle.net e-mail addresses) for adding friends to one’s friends list? Huh…this list doesn’t contain many RealIDs, so how’s everyone hooking up with each other?

As far as I know we aren’t :(

They dropped Copper and put Diamond on top – platinum is the new gold now.

I’ve been #1 in gold 1v1 for a few days now, waiting to get promoted to get stomped in platinum. Any clues on what triggers the promotion? Do I have to win a few in a row or what?

Earlier in the thread it was hypothesized that your standing gets reevaluated every 40 games or so. Someone was even promoted after losing a game. I’m not sure if that is still current or what the actual promotion mechanism is. Before the last reset I got promoted from silver to gold relatively easy, only took a day or two.

I guess people are tired of getting called common metal, I hope they drop bronze and make Unobtainium the new top!!!

Best Buy canceled my pre-order last night. Anyone heard anything? Is there going to be another beta going on soon?

They promised an early July start for phase 2 of the beta, release date still looks solid. Just checked some forums and it looks like a new beta patch is out there now so it could be starting any time.
