Don’t we have a thread for GOP crap though?

In other news, I have off tomorrow!

Huh, the people who voted against the holiday are all men.

Empathy deficit. It figures.

We do, but this is the Juneteenth discussion. The other side’s reaction to Biden’s actions seems fair game to me.

Most threads are fairly fluid.

Enjoy it! I’m just glad I don’t need to go to the bank.

I agree with it, though a few places don’t have traditional email addresses, such as reservations.

To give you a clue about how the Republicans are taking- told coworker a few minutes ago that due to Juneteenth we’d be getting extra pay, and he was mad over it.

That’s the level of racist we’re dealing with.

I honestly can’t figure out why someone would be mad over it.

How did he justify his anger at getting extra money?

He’s just that conscientious of a Republican, all upset that the taxpayers are giving him holiday pay.

You haven’t had many run-ins with the anti-MLK Day brigade I take it?

As far as why, that’s easy. Racism. So much racism.

and my mom just called the holiday “cancel culture”

The brainwashing is complete.

I fully expect my parents will disown me within 2 years due to said brainwashing.

It’s just such weird, mindless racism.

My only problem is that “Juneteenth” is an objectively terrible name. Not only does it not give the slightest hint what the holiday is about, it doesn’t even tell you what day it is. It’s like if we decided to call Independence Day “Julorth”.

You could pull a Kevin and disown them first! ;)

Okay, I didn’t disown them exactly but contact between myself and my mother is… I think we’ve spoken for 5 minutes this year. Life is better this way.

I’ll bet we will all figure it out, like we figured out “Easter”.

Actually Julorth would at least clearly specify the fourth, Juneteenth could be any day in the teens. Although maybe there’s a play here to get 7 days off work…

You realize the name isn’t some sort of marketing slogan, right?

It was what the actual freed people referred to it as.

That doesn’t make it not terrible.

Anyway, good job getting played, Democrats. Now the next time anyone tries to push for a national voting day, the GOP will be all “But we just added a federal holiday!” Y’all seriously think so many Republicans voted for this out of the goodness of their hearts? When your enemy is suddenly going along with you, you have to ask yourself what they’re up to.

It does, in fact, make it awesome.

People get used to weird names. Remember all the hemming and hawing over the Nintendo Wii? Didn’t stop it from becoming a massive hit. It’ll be weird for a few years then nobody will care.

I second this motion. This should be a thing.
