I’m not worried about Manchin. Manchin is rational, and already got to negotiate.
Sinema scares me because I truly do view her as a loon who might shoot everyone.
Schumer needs to whip Sinema and say you play ball, or you lose all your committees. She wouldn’t be able to go full GOP.
Omit needless words!
Still the best writing advice ever. I love how the phrase itself practices what it preaches. :)

Is there an outline anywhere which summarizes everything in the $1 trillion bipartisan plan, alongside what’s currently proposed in this $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill?
Would be especially neat if we had something like this:
(Though that above link is also outdated since it just shows a $550 billion proposal, not the final $1 trillion bill)
Heh, not sure that mission has been accomplished!
I pledge that I will never forget remember that mantra until the end of time has come forever.
A+ work! :D
Honestly, the people who need to heed this lesson even more than the writers of questions for political polls is high school students writing their personal essays for college applications. HOLY SHIT.
I’ve shared these before, but here are a few favorite quotes I’ve lovingly collected through the years…
-
“My eyeballs were rendered useless from the oppressive darkness around me.”
-
“My pounding headache from these seemingly insoluble questions rooted in my consciousness rang in cacophonous discord into the frozen silence.”
-
“Our make out session lasts for god knows how long. Feeling satisfied, I retract my tongue, and pull away.”
-
“‘Can I sit here?’ My daydreams were shattered as these words entered the air, flying to my ears.”
-
“Our eyes felt like raisins: desiccated, half the size of the fruit they were (from lack of sleep), and lifeless.”

The current bill is only 550 billion in new spending. They tried to make it seem bigger by including another 450 billion that was already approved in the Covid packages or is already part of projected budgets like future DOT routine maintenance of infrastructure spending.
lol holy shit is right
I graded some essays in a history class once, and kept my favorite sentences. The best was:
The history of 1066 was indeed true.
lol, well, they weren’t wrong.
Two absolute gems from my bygone teaching days:
- “The Catholic Church’s stance on artificial reproduction is inconceivable to many.”
- “Same sex marriage should be legal because it is in society’s best interest to support long-term monotonous relationships.”

Hey, i ressemble they remark!
18 year olds aren’t expected to be masters of prose. I think it’s ok if they tend to overwrite at that age.
I think it’s okay too. Lord knows I did! I am laughing with these quotes, not at them.
Too perfect!
And LOL at the history that was indeed true. Reminds me of another fave:
“A mother can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life.”
This conversation reminds me of when I first picked up a book, Gideon the Ninth, and the author clearly began in the mindset of “if one adjective is good, why not two or three?” Wound up being a great book (and nominated for the 2020 Hugo), but I almost put it down early on because of the author’s penchant for over-writing at the start.
Be all this discussion of young people’s purple prose as it may, Biden really needs to make a statement about carving out an exception to the filibuster when it comes to protecting voting rights.

That was my experience also. My wife handed me that book one night as I was looking for something to read. One chapter in I looked over at her and asked why the hell she thought I’d like this hot mess. She told me to give it a little more time. And she was right. Ended up really liking it.
