This didn’t make any sense.

Voting down a huge bill you want… Is causing nothing to get done.

They’ll still have the reconciliation, which carries over from year to year- they can let the pressure mount.

Dude, you have a few months, tops, before we are fully in the 22 election cycle.

If you haven’t done anything by then, the democrats are fucked. And if the GOP retakes Congress, then you are fucked forever. Forever.

Regardless of what happens here, the GOP is I think favored to retake the House. Not sure what the Senate map in '22 looks like.

That’s why the democrats need to get their shit together and pass this stuff.

Their only chance here is to be able to say, “look at this. We did actual things.”

Those two thoughts don’t align to me.

“We got nothing done because we stopped it, and now fascism will win… thanks to us.”

Manchin is now demanding the Hyde amendment in any reconciliation bill.

It’s clear who the folks who are radicals and refusing to compromise right now, and it’s not the left.

Call Manchin and Sinema’s bluff. If they vote it down, cut off all support for them from their re-elections, and support primary challengers. Get the 50 from PA and NC instead. Also threaten ethics investigations into Manchin’s kids and Sinema’s internship.

I was willing to work with Manchin until that. It’s clear by doing that he’s trying to kill the whole thing.

God what an enormous piece of shit.

As soon as you do this, Manchin (R-WV) gets some nice committee assignments and consideration in bills from majority leader McConnell. But also - name me a Democrat that can be elected in WV aside from Manchin.

he won’t win re-election as a Republican, and he won’t get consideration really.

Also you need to avoid the left finally saying enough’s enough and outright revolting, because once that precedent is set , things change, and probably not in a good way for Dems.

I suspect they would just caucus with the GOP then. You aren’t gonna win Machin’s seat with some other democrat.

Uh, Manchin would absolutely win reelection as a Republican.

This is the biggest reason I want to see the Electoral College go away, so that parties can split among whatever ideologies they want to, without having to worry about party unity in order to secure 270 to win an election.

Consider me skeptical that a Senator being told to pound sand by his party and who is already close to Republicans on a good amount of policy wouldn’t both flip parties and negotiate kickbacks from the leadership he put in control.

We absolutely should try to flip more winnable seats. And WV is likely lost once Manchin decides to retire. I don’t see the benefit in driving away seat 50 before there’s a secure majority.

Also, currently the Hyde Amendment enjoys support from a majority of Americans. While most Americans support a right to abortions, they don’t support the government paying for it.

Manchin may be infuriating, but he’s the reason we’re even talking about these bills instead of a tax reduction for the rich (and worse) that a Republican congress would be pushing right now.

This is why you don’t punish them for their vote, you just deal with it later, when it comes time for their re-election.

I’m not saying to go Liz Cheney on them.

But again, in this case, you’re talking about trying to primary a guy for the sin of… pushing a position that represents the majority position of Americans.

And if you were to successfully primary him, you would then lose that seat.
