Good lord Manchin is a piece of shit.

Hereās something to consider, for those upset at the progressive wing negotiating hard instead of rolling over as they have been forced to time and again in the past.
Your anger is misplaced.
Hereās the thing, the media has every incentive to maximize the controversy and drama on this. Not only is amplifying any drama good for their ratings, but institutionally the media sphere is explicitly anti progressive. Big media companies donāt want higher taxes, or wealth taxes, or curbing the excesses of the 1%, that threatens the owners and the board rooms. So on an institutional level they are ideologically opposed to any sort of progressive economic agenda. They have every reason to amplify and focus on making progressive demands seem unreasonable or inflexible.
So to @138 and others frustrated? That is exactly what the media ecosystem wants you to feel. you are playing into their hand and buying their line. Put the blame where it belongs.
Here.
We should blame the other 50 senators as well. No one expects them to vote for climate change stuff or family stuff, but that doesnāt mean they arenāt part of the problem.
Republican Senators are beneath hatred. They are a subhuman disease that imperils us all, not legislators.

If we were talking about general dysfunction? Absolutely. But when the topic is intra party negotiation and fights, well the GOP doesnāt bear mentioning.
Itās like bringing up someoneās cancer when theyāre dealing with an allergic reaction. Sure the cancer is worse, but it isnāt our concern at the moment.
Manchin is the errant brazil nut in the trail mix, Mitch is stage 4 leukemia.

Yeah. The media has been covering this like an entertainment magazine covering a celebrity feud.
So is there any human infrastructure left in the bill that would materially affect the average personās life and make them want to vote Democrat next year?
Yeah, is the (non-ridiculously meansātested) expanded child tax credit and universal Pre-K in there at least? I mean, I donāt have kids (nor did I ever) but a lot of people do.
Not so much anymore though. How about every time something gets cut we use an adjective that means something a little smaller than last time we talked about it. By now I think weād be down to āmodestā.
In before Timex or somebody replies to say how itās actually still a lot of money.
God forbid we approach the kind of quality of life every other first world country has already. Sick? Fuck you. Had a kid? Fuck you and the kid.
Maybe you should beg your generous corporate overlords for some largesse.

Failing to get a deal done this week will harm the Democratsā chances in the Virginia election next week.
Look man you may want to live in some tyrannical hellhole like (checks notes) Denmark, but here in America we value a little something called freedom.
I hear they have Commissars in Denmark who just arrest people in the street and have them summarily executed!*
*ā¦is what Fox News would have you believe.

President Biden plans to announce Thursday a revised framework for his social spending plan that he expects will gain the support of all Democrats, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation, marking a potential breakthrough after months of lengthy negotiations and stalled talks.
The White House plans to detail specific policies it expects to pass Congress after weeks of whittling down Bidenās agenda, according to one of the people. Democrats on Capitol Hill were preparing written details of the revamped proposal for release on Thursday, according to the second person.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the plans on the record. The White House declined to comment.

With all of the shit thatās been cut out of this thing, Iām interested to see this framework now. Apparently family leave is completely out now.

I saw an interesting strategy idea- Progressives could agree to let the infrastructure through, but only if Biden takes executive action on student debt and cancels most of it, or even just 10K for everyone.
Negotiate with Biden- they get a massive win, Manchin and Sinema get what they want, the progressive want list goes unfilled but they can get a huge win they can run on, while having a lot of their wants left they can run on in future.
Also those with student debt can see Biden put 10K in their pockets/bank accounts when they are struggling- good way to make those voters want to vote again.

Maybe? I think the election here in VA is largely being waged on local issues, and even if the Dems do pass a deal the effects of that deal ā which is what would likely sway an election, right? ā are months or years off.
Donāt be all that shocked in the Dems lose the gubernatorial race. They have run what anecdotally seems to be a terrible campaign, and havenāt managed to mobilize voters at all, while the Republicans seem to be mobilizing the Trumpy base pretty effectively. The deciding factor is going to be turnout.

Hopefully Dems are still scared enough to turn out to vote.

Fingers crossed. Speaking purely anecdotally, the dearth of yard signs for McAuliffe is shocking (Iām located in super-blue Northern VA, where McAuliffe needs to absolutely stomp Youngkin and get out the vote in order to win state-wide).
