Nice job, stalker-in-chief! If his approval rating starts to climb again, we will all know why.

FIFY

I wonder if the former guy, ever set foot in a bookstore, other than to hawk his books?

I just watched the Mayor Pete documentary on Amazon Prime. Highly recommended.

The only anti-gay protestors they really showed in the film, were the complete nut jobs.
Film was worth watching just for those characters.

Absolutely not.

Which is why I didn’t feel the need for the disclaimer.

Nice! I am a bit jealous, but I am glad you got a picture. Seems like a cool start of the day.

Thank you for sharing the picture.

It was really neat to watch the whole secret service process. We’re staying in a loft apartment above the bookstore so when we saw out the window that there was some secret service activity out in the street, we headed out hoping to see him drive by or something.

We waited and watched and learned that the Bidens were at lunch next door. I texted my sister who was across town to let her know what was happening. She tried to walk over but the secret service agents had set up a perimeter many blocks away and they wouldn’t let her through. My mom had wisely stayed in the bookstore and she called my sister for an update. Meanwhile, one of the senior secret service dudes was shopping for books and he overheard my mom on the phone and said he could go get her. He said, “owner of the store has to get to work!”

We were still outside and getting shooed further and further away from the store and wishing we had just stayed inside upstairs where we could have taken a picture out the window. But then that agent came out of the bookstore to get my sister a block down the street and as they passed, she pointed at us and told him we were her family and he said we could come too. We were thrilled.

So we went inside and browsed for a long while and I started liveblogging to Qt3. When Dr. Biden and her husband finally arrived, we waited until I had a chance to say hello and introduce myself and my wife and two daughters. He said, ‘Three sisters?’ We laughed and I said, “Ever the charmer.” Then I asked to take a photo of them but his grandson offered to take one with me in it too. Nice kid!

So that was how that went down! My mom thanked Jill for continuing to teach and setting a good example. My mother-in-law got to shake Joe’s hand and she told him she was glad he’s our president. He took a selfie of them both with her phone. My sister thanked him for always shopping there and Joe said it was “their bookstore.” Jill’s annual tradition is to buy a Christmas tree ornament there the day after Thanksgiving and this year she picked out a glittery deer.

The Bidens were at the tree lighting and caroling event later that evening. It was lovely to see their large, close family all together (some of his grandkids groaned in a funny way when Pop Pop first walked in the shop without his mask on.) And it was cool as hell to see the massive security operation and White House Military Office in action. Turns out one-way street rules do not apply to those folks!

That’s a great story, thanks for sharing! My wife really enjoyed it, and so enjoys having a human as a president again.

That’s one hell of a day. Congrats!

Very cool story that’s going to make a great memory to tell to grandkids down the road.

Awesome story and a great experience for your kids! Also looks like a nice book shop!

It is indeed! My sister is truly awesome.

Her bookstore made it on to the official potus Instagram today. She’s in this pic along with my mom and my mother-in-law.

“Small businesses are the backbone of communities across the country — and it’s crucial we support them during the holiday season and all year round. Shop small.”

(I’m going to take his advice this Christmas season. Amazon was necessary last year. F*ck 'em this year.)

P.S. My daughter was thrilled that the chocolate bar she ate yesterday evening made it on to the President’s official Instagram. It’s the light blue one at the top of the stack.

Well POTUS got another instagram follower, me

And I’m pretty sure he locked-up a few votes in the morton family.

A great start to your holidays, the Biden’s are a class act.

Wish he’d do more for small businesses than spout platitudes, but I appreciate the sentiment!

Well, he shops at them AND PROBABLY PAYS, which more then I can say for the last POTUS.

That bar is so low it’s in the mantle of the earth!

Sure, but there are a few check boxes that are important to me.

Can he hold the bible the right way around?

Does he respect all people’s right to get married to the person they love?

Has he, at some point, tried to help someone without any sort of gain?

Does he follow the edict that you must love your fellow man?

Does he stand for the Women’s right to choice what goes on in her own body, when it has no impact on anyone else?

Those are all checked boxes for me.

So, it is a low bar, but Biden easily leaps over them. He is a kind compassionate man, easily a leading example of what a Christian should be (although, like all people, I am sure at times he falls short).

He’s a good guy, but given that this good guy also ran and became president, I think we can add to our expectations that he promote good policies, especially as they align with his self-professed principles. As a book buyer who supports small businesses, I can shop at small bookstores. As the president of the United States who supports small businesses, he can push Congress to crank up the taxes on Amazon, make sure they pay those taxes, and give most of the tax revenue to @rrmorton’s sister (et al).

Can you maybe scale it back a tad and just let a fun post be a fun post?

Oh, I thought that’s what I had done. I sincerely appreciate the sentiment!

Can he, though? Can he?
