The problem is projecting the weird local politics of Arizona to encompass the nation. For example in Sinemaā€™s race all three candidates (R,D and I) were women. Not that this in itself should be bad, because it isnā€™t, but US politics has a bias against women candidates, and so every party putting women as their primary ticket candidate tells me thereā€™s some weird local triangulation going on there. Sinema winning with 50% of the votes (2.4% going to the Green candidate), in a very purple Arizona, seems to have convinced her sheā€™s got it all figured out.

Iā€™m still skeptical of taking Twitter gossip as ā€œtruthā€ though, even from blue check-marked Serious People. There doesnā€™t need to be a Grand Sinema Theory to explain her behavior. She could just be attention seeking, cynical or not that sharp, or some combination of them.

I think that itā€™s important remember that thereā€™s a lot of reasons for people to run for an office that donā€™t involve thinking that they have any chance in hell at actually winning. Thereā€™s tons of ways to run a campaign with an exit strategy that is a big personal win for the candidate.
