I mean if you want to say media doesn’t influence people, then sure.
It influences people on the Left a hell of a lot less, I’ll grant you, but not at all seems a massive stretch.

I’m not sure I’m connecting the dots. I do think the opposition from some of the more progressive Democrats and how they portrayed the infrastructure bill had some impact on how the bill was perceived. Where I’m falling to follow is how putting words in the mouths of people in the thread is the response to that?
I’m not trying to argue anything at the moment, I’m sincerely trying to better understand where you’re coming from or what you’re trying to convey.
It’s fucking COVID. That’s the explanation. That is all.

Kevin, I didn’t think anything you said was unreasonable.

To be managed opposition.
That’s what the Dems are going to be in America by 2028 at this rate.
It’s weird feeling like the one leftie who has a positive view of Biden, I think he’s trying to do good things, he’s just in an impossible position.
Unless he’s willing to go full violent dictator, there’s not much he can do (though personally, at this rate, I’d take dictator Biden) And the dictator option is well, fantasy, though he probably wouldn’t be impeached and removed for it.

What? Um, that’s kind of the opposite of what I’m saying. I literally pointed out that the coverage the media gave the infrastructure lasted about five seconds and was drowned out in a flood of inflation stories. Heck if we could find polling on this I’m sure we’d all find our estimates of people who said “what infrastructure bill” would be a bit low. I’ve also mentioned how the coverage of praise of the bill wasn’t click worthy enough to report on while amplifying any and all criticism absolutely was.
We’re not talking about the influence on people on the left. I mean who on the left is all “well, I’m fine with BBB failing but passing the infrastructure plan, that’s what galls me!”. The comment was about negative comments from the left about infrastructure influencing others to decide to disapprove of Biden. There was that weird side track about how unnamed QT3ers believe what they do because of left wing media influence. Nothing to do with if the far left itself is influenced by media or not.

I mean seriously, if there was this mythical voter whose decision on whether he approved or disapproved of Biden in any way hinged on the fact that leftists convinced him that the infrastructure bill was bad, wouldn’t you think CNN would have found them and put them in a focus group by now? Or at least interviewed them in a rural Dennys?
Timex
6534
See, this is what I’m talking about.
You engage lots of folks more left than this forum, and they don’t like Biden, right?
Their opinion isn’t being driven by media outlets like CNN, right?
That’s where we were getting the narrative that the infrastructure bill was garbage.
I know some folks seen to think that the multitudes of the crazy left on Twitter aren’t real people, or somehow don’t count… But they do in fact exist.

They only interview Klansmen, White Nationalists and Republican Operatives in those pieces.
But I repeat myself.
Thrag

I mean if we’re talking about the far left themselves now and how their own media influences them, including twitter, then it’s not the passing of the infrastructure bill that seems to come up as the problem.

I think you misspelled “average Americans.”

Most of them flat out distrust the Dems, but they do vote. Ultimately, they’re angry and disillusioned, but they get how it works. They fall in line when needed for the most part, outside of a few true crazies. They will be very defiant/oppositional in Dem primaries though.
What tends to drive these folks is their own forums/media, which is outside the megacorporate bubble.

I mean, you’re not. Twitter is not the real world, my dude.

I think, much like obama, that biden has done pretty well given the disasterous state left to him by the prior president. Theres only so much he can do with sinema and manchin and the improperly stacked supreme court blocking his very popular agenda, but he has made significant changes for the better.
Not sure why hes getting flak from the media when trump could shit on allies, gold star families, and coddle despots and not even be called a liar.
RichVR

Maybe because Trump made his special kind of news every day. All the media had to do was report it. Biden isn’t a daily fuckup so they have to manufacture bullshit.
Aceris

But that’s the thing, a lot of journalists see a lot of twitter. So twitter does influence the “real world” news more than you might realise.

I feel like this is the government I’ll have the rest of my life, assuming it doesn’t get any worse. So far this century it has been:
- GWB takes a thriving economy and a budget surplus and invades and occupies two separate nations. Wages and jobs are stagnant throughout his term and he leaves office with the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression for Obama to handle.
- Under Obama, the country pulls back from the brink of financial disaster. The two legacy wars continue. Overall, things stabilize and somehow modest steps are taken to improve healthcare via the ACA.
- Trump. I’d wear out my keyboard typing all of his shit but you all lived through it so you know what it entails.
- Biden inherits all the problems Trump created as well as a once-in-a-century pandemic which had been completely mismanaged and politicized. After year one, the economy has managed to keep moving, unemployment is very low. Inflation is a problem.
I’m guessing the back end of his term will be GOP impeachment dog and pony shows and full-out obstruction. Biden will veto the absolutely fucking crazy that comes out of Congress, resulting in deadlock for two years. We then hand the presidency and at least one house of Congress over to the GOP to insure we have fresh new disasters awaiting us that maybe the next Democrat can triage, assuming we still have fair elections.
RichVR
6544
I feel that there wouldn’t be a next Democrat.
Thrag

Yup. The GOP plans to put an end to that cycle. Ain’t nobody going to take credit for fixing republican mistakes, including republicans because that would mean admitting mistakes.
Seriously. Did you all order crazy pills with your free COVID tests this week or something?
