The counterargument is that censuring sometime is not the problem.

Censuring someone is merely a demonstration of the overall party’s will.

In the case of the Republicans, their act of censuring members was to demonstrate that they all backed Trump’s lie that he actually won the election. They were openly declaring themselves to be either liars or imbeciles.
