Well, the American people did, so you’re welcome. :)

I’m investing mine into Gamestop!

Funny, despite his on-screen “little guy against The Man” roles, Stewart was a lifelong Republican. Of course, that doesn’t mean he was today’s brand of loony Trumppalo Republican or (dare I hope) even a Gingrichite one.

BTW, that film ended so stupidly. Claude Rains’ villain character has some kind of nervous breakdown/health crisis from the guilt of being so evil, I guess, and everything is magically resolved in two minutes of additional screen time, as I recall.

As to what I’m going to do with my money, well, probably a grand of it will still go to help my sis, and I’ll keep the other 400 to pay any extra state taxes Oregon might levy on the two previous stimulus payments. Can I presume they are free of federal taxes (at least for most people who aren’t bazillionaires)?

Damn it, I was trying to take a drink over here!

So Biden signed the Covid bill. Alone. At his desk. No crowd of sycophants. No bluster. I like that.

Like the last time, half of our family’s payment is going to my son and half is going to my niece, both of whom are unemployed.

Brand new Mini van, I think.

Your a good person.

Man, I just love hearing the wailing and gnashing of teeth (not to mention the rending of garments) from the Republican talking heads on news shows in the wake of this win for the Biden Administration and the Democratic Congress.

Helping Americans to pwn the Repubs.

Not sure where this belongs, so I choose here: $2800 hit my bank account this morning already!

Nice! I got a letter from the department of the treasury yesterday telling me how much we will be getting and saying it should hit our bank account within seven days of the receipt of the letter.

Nice! I’m in the group of people who got the first two, but make about $10k too much to get the third. But I’m super happy for everyone who is getting it!

It does make my effective marginal tax rate on the last $10k of my income very high though. I pay 24% in federal income taxes and 9% in federal payroll taxes on that $10k, so net about $6700. I would have gotten an extra $2800 in stimulus (untaxed), so that reduces my net to $3900, for an effective marginal tax rate of 61%. Which is about as high as it gets. For people who make more than me, that effective rate is lower because they’re farther above the threshold.

Ouch! Yeah, you definitely found the unsweet spot.

I don’t understand why tax rates aren’t a continuous function. It’s not like we all have computers now.

We just got one of those too, but it was for the second stimulus payment (EIP2), not the new one.
