Both sides turned out a lot of new voters this time. I think the question will be which side can get those voters back out again without the top of the ticket being there. Will the lack of Trump hurt one side or the other more?

The silver lining of Trumpists thinking elections are rigged is that they might not bother to show up to future ones. On the other hand, a voting block being pissed usually means higher turnout.
I’m imagining the staffer who has to call the residence tonight and deliver the news to POTUS.
Like, are they drawing straws on that?
Part of me thinks there’s a strong chance a crowd shows up outside the White House and starts chanting loser so loud he can hear it.

FiveThirtyEight podcast tonight mentioned that Decision Desks may be reluctant to call Pennsylvania until it’s very, very clear to make it harder for Trump to call shenanigans. For example, even though it’s already clear, they would at least want Biden clearly in the lead, it might have a perception problem for certain less intelligent / brainwashed parts of the populace (my words, obviously not 538’s) if it were called for Biden while Trump is still in front.
It was also suggested (I think it was on the 538 podcast, but might have heard this elsewhere) that police would prefer the call be made during the day, as it would be easier for them if protests break out or celebrations get out of hand (similar to how sometimes when a city wins the NBA championships, celebratory crowds end up trashing stuff).

On the third hand, Trump actually got a big turnout, and might still come up just short. So, if the turnout is due to the Trump effect, and can’t repeat that…
