It’s not possible that Democrats are going to win both Senate seats in GA, though, right? The one was like 35% for the Dem, and 30% each for the two Rs.

I doubt it, but the unknown for me is what the turnout for the runoff is like. Does the Trump base come out? They didn’t nationally in 2018 so maybe this is the same? Or maybe with them believing the election was “stolen” from them, they come out in droves and have higher turnout than the Dems.

Not sure what this means - Do you think the remaining votes in Penn might possibly, somehow shift to Trump, or just that Penn will be slow on counting the rest of its ballots? The latter makes sense, but the former is well, not making sense.

Well, it’s a lot easier to turn people out for a Presidential election than for a special Senatorial election in January, alas. Only committed partisans show up for those.

Yup. My default expectation is we’ll lose both and it won’t be close, but I’ll certainly allow that my political instincts are not having a good decade. I want very badly to be wrong on this one.

After this is all over and the counting is really done and certified everywhere, I really want someone to make a simulation that shows how the night could have looked if ballots had been reported in purely random order.

Just to be nitpicky, if they were truly counted in random order, the results would start at the final percentage, and stay that way throughout the count, once the total count was large enough to account for statistical fluctuations.

I would think not. And the reason for that is despite him having something resembling a moral compass, he’s still a conservative wealthy Republican with all the views that I completely disagree with.

This is true but despite the fact that I completely disagree with him and the values that he consistently votes for, I do respect that he has a moral compass. If you could wave a wand and replace the entire Republican Party with an Army of Mitt Romney clones, that would be a party worth preserving. I’d disagree with them and vote consistently against them, but I’d respect their right to hold contrary values.

Of course, since you can’t do that, the party needs to die and the ground needs to be salted so it never grows back.

Same. His speech explaining his impeach vote was a superb summation of the case against Trump (at least regarding 1 of the 2 charges) and seemed quite sincere to me.
