I’d say start with never, ever forgiving any of them. Social pariahs forl ife, every one. They voted for the deaths and immiseration of nearly everyone I love, and I want them to feel the pain they’d inflict on others for the rest of their pathetic lives.

I think it’s tenuous for a lot of reasons. The rampant Catholicism, the rampant Machismo culture, the rampant “fuck you I got in, now you stay out” attitudes, and obviously the rampant Cuban immigrant overreaction to anything that they perceive as Communist-adjacent – by all rights, it’s not a collective of vaguely related demographic groups that should have much in common with the social and economic policies of the Democratic party. . . but “luckily” for us, the other party are actively trying to jail, deport, and/or murder them en masse, so the alliance holds, more or less. But it should be absurdly easy for the faux-Christian ghoul-party that is the GOP to pivot slightly and steal away a crippling portion of the Latinx vote. We’re mostly lucky that they’re so goddamned fucking incompetent and racist that they can’t manage to go six minutes without calling all Mexicans rapists, basically.

Edit: to lend the very faintest of credence to this, I’m a Guatemalan American myself. To immediately eliminate that whiff of believability, I also grew up incredibly removed from my heritage, am extremely white passing, and have a hilariously white name. I possess no special insight here, apart from a generalized anxiety about how closely aligned that community will feel in 5/15/25 years’ time.
